2017 Gold Cup Football Semi-Final – Mexico vs Jamaica Betting Preview

The second semi-final of the Gold Cup is a repeat of the final from the last renewal as Mexico take on Jamaica in California. The winners of this one will take on USA in the final.

Mexico saw off the Reggae Boyz in that final so the men from the Caribbean will be looking for revenge here. El Tri will have their eyes on taking their title defence down to the final match if they can.

Mexico

The defending champions have got better and better in this tournament the longer it has gone on and if they improve again then they are going to take a lot of beating. That said their hardest match and less impressive performance probably came against Jamaica so it will be interesting to see how they respond here.

Mexico have been very tight at the back in this tournament. To date they have only conceded one goal in the competition and if they can remain tight at the back you would think they would have enough to find the net at the other end even though they couldn’t score in the group match against Jamaica.

Jamaica

The 2015 runners-up have also been pretty impressive in this tournament. They have done what they have needed to at the right times and won the matches they were expected to and here they are in another semi-final and looking to make the final for the second successive Gold Cup.

They were organised and hard to break down against Mexico in the first match between the two in the tournament which ended 0-0 and given that they love to play on the counter attack we can expect them to employ the same tactics in this one. If they can be clinical when those counters occur they could win this.

Team News

Mexico will be looking to the likes of Erick Gutierrez and Erick Torres to fire them into the final. They have no fresh injury concerns heading into the match.

Jamaica also have not revealed any injuries heading into this semi-final. All eyes will be on Andre Blake to see if he can keep up his impressive form in the tournament so far.

Betting

This is a tough semi-final to bet on. I expect the match to turn into the answer to the question of ‘Can Mexico break Jamaica down’. The evidence of the first match between the two in the group stage would suggest not but if they do then there are few signs Jamaica will respond so the first goal is crucial.

Those sort of matches are exactly the ones I don’t like betting in so I’m happy to give this one a miss and save my money for what should be a tasty final regardless of who is in it.
