2017 International Championship Snooker Qualifying – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of qualifying for the International Championship takes place in Preston on Wednesday with 28 more players taking to the green baize looking to secure their spot in the main event next month.

As with the opening day the play takes place across three sessions inside the Guild Hall and we have some decent players coming out to show their skills on what looks like being a top day of snooker.

Morning Session

The schedule for the streaming tables have not been finalised yet but we can be pretty sure that Mark Williams will be on one of them when he faces Boonyarit Keattikun while the other one is likely to be occupied by Martin Gould and Mitchell Mann. Elsewhere in the session David Grace faces Xu Si while Daniel Wells meets Ian Burns. Mike Dunn and Martin O’Donnell meet to complete the morning.

Afternoon Session

It would be a surprise if we don’t see Stephen Maguire on one of the live tables. He takes on the Maltese veteran Alex Borg with the other streamed table potentially seeing Xiao Guodong playing Jimmy White. Robert Milkins faces Chinese opposition in this session when he plays Yuan Sijun while two former world finalists meet when Graeme Dott faces Nigel Bond. David Gilbert plays Liam Highfield in the other match.

Evening Session

Just the four matches are scheduled for this session and they each contain a player who is currently in the top 16 in the world. Neil Robertson is likely to be on one of the streamed tables when he meets Craig Steadman with the other one potentially seeing Marco Fu playing Akani Songsermsawad. The other two matches to round off the day are Anthony McGill against Aditya Mehta and Kyren Wilson against Rhys Clark.

Betting

There are two that I like over the course of Wednesday. They begin in the morning session where Xu Si is overpriced after his exertions in India when he faces David Grace. Grace is a solid pro but has never really ever been more than that and we saw glimpses of the fact that Xu could be another Chinese star in the making during his run in India. Grace has only won three matches all season and one of them was against an amateur. At the prices he should be taken on.

Anthony McGill thrashed Aditya Mehta 4-0 in India earlier in the month and now the two face off again and I’m not convinced the Indian will get a whole lot closer. McGill looks to be in fine form at the minute having made the final in India and followed it with a run to the quarter finals in the World Open. Mehta is not the player he once was and I would be surprised if he stays within two of the Scot here.
