2017 The Masters Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

One of the most special days of the golfing year is upon us. Masters Sunday rarely fails to disappoint and this one certainly looks like living up to the billing as the cream came to the fore on Saturday to provide a high class leaderboard which certainly isn’t lacking for potential stories but as yet we’re no closer to knowing who Danny Willett will be slipping a green jacket on to.

Saturday Recap

Saturday was a day where the ball strikers really grabbed hold of the tournament and ran with it and as such we have some of the best bidding for the title on Sunday. Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia held the rest at bay and they will begin the final day tied at the top on six under. Rickie Fowler is one shot behind on five under with Jordan Spieth, Ryan Moore and Charley Hoffman within two of the lead. Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Lee Westwood are all within touching distance too.

We nailed another two ball bet on Saturday to make it five from five for match bets this week as Jordan Spieth absolutely destroyed Phil Mickelson. We also go into the final round with Thomas Pieters having every chance of delivering some sort of outright return too.

Outright

You can make a case for a good six of the leading eight heading into the final round. They always say this tournament doesn’t really begin until the back nine on Sunday and with the quality that is around and the bunched nature of the leaderboard that certainly looks like being the case here.

I’m hoping Thomas Pieters or Jon Rahm have a big final round in them to deliver something from the pre-event outright market but I’ve had a decent tournament so I’m going to stick with them. A win might be beyond them but with eight places hopefully we can pick something up. If I was to go in again the price on Charl Schwartzel would be hard to ignore.

2 balls

My betting on the final round will come on the two balls where once again every group is priced up. I’m sticking to the head of the leaderboard where we know there are no motivation issues and I’m going with two.

Adam Scott vs Charl Schwartzel

Group tees off at 19.15 BST

Charl Schwartzel has sneaked into contention almost unnoticed which is amazing when you think he has won this tournament before. The South African was four over after nine holes this week but he has played the last 45 holes in six under par and only missed seven greens in the last two rounds. Adam Scott has been there or thereabouts all week but I can’t help but feel that his putting isn’t to the level he would like and that is a concern. There doesn’t appear to be much wrong with Schwartzel’s game and given that he’s lit it up on a Sunday before I think he is overpriced to nail the Australian.

Rickie Fowler vs Jordan Spieth

Group tees off at 19.35 BST

The marquee group in the final round is the penultimate group on the golf course as the American superstars Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth do battle. Rickie Fowler has looked very comfortable on the greens all week but he lacked a spark and his long game on Saturday which would be a real concern. The confidence and strong mental approach of Jordan Spieth has been evident all week and he’ll fancy the job from here. He is perfectly suited to this course and he’s going to be hard to beat on Sunday. I nearly took him outright but this is a high class leaderboard so just in case he finds one too good for him I’ll take him to see off a Rickie Fowler who can’t rely on just his putter on Sunday.
