2017 The Masters Snooker – Judd Trump vs Marco Fu Betting Preview

Tuesday at The Masters has all the makings of a fantastic day of snooker and it gets underway with the clash between Judd Trump and Marco Fu in the afternoon session with the reward for the winner a spot in the quarter final against Mark Allen.

Judd Trump

For someone who is as good as Judd Trump is his record in this tournament isn’t overly brilliant but you can say that about a number of players. That is a sign of how tough this tournament is to play in. It is the best playing the best right from the beginning and there is no light matches as Trump will find out here.

Trump has won one tournament this season already having landed the European Masters title and having beaten Ronnie O’Sullivan in the final of that event that will have been special. Since then he has made the English Open final and the semis of the International Championship and the Scottish Open, the latter he lost to John Higgins from 5-1 up.

Marco Fu

The highlight of Marco Fu’s season was in Scotland where he played some of the best snooker we have seen in a while to land the title. His scoring that week was amazing and if he is in that form this week then there are a few players who are going to need to look out. Fu also made the semi-final of the UK Championship where he was a few balls from beating Ronnie O’Sullivan.

It is a credit to the quality of Marco Fu that his record in this tournament is pretty strong. He has made the final in 2011 and a semi-final prior to that and when you think he has rarely been in the top four in the world rankings that is no mean effort. He clearly doesn’t wilt on the big stage.

Head to Head

In all competitions including the Championship League the two have met 18 times and Trump has come through on 12 occasions to Fu’s six. Trump has won their last two, one of which was at the World Championship in 2015. They’ve met once in The Masters which was in this round in 2014. Fu won that 6-5.

Betting

I really think this is a 50/50 match. I understand why Trump is a favourite but I certainly don’t think he is a certainty or a strong chance of winning. Fu deserves respect but at the same time I wouldn’t want to take Trump on so I’m going to head to the side markets for a bet.

It is the centuries I like here. These two tend to bring the best out of each other from a scoring point of view and I see no reason why that won’t happen again here. When they met in this tournament in 2014 they made three centuries between them and when they played each other in the China Open last year there were two centuries in that match.

These two are two of the best scorers in the game and on a table that is playing beautifully to the extent that every player in the tournament so far has had at least one century I’m fully expecting to see two more here.
