The North Group of the NatWest T20 Blast continues as the focus of attention on Wednesday evening when Leicestershire play Nottinghamshire in the one match on the schedule in the competition.
Both these sides have a big history in this format of the game and as such both will be eager to make the knockout stages and then qualify for finals day on top of that. With that in mind this is a pretty big game for both notwithstanding the fact it is a local derby.
Leicestershire
It has been a season of two halves for the former champions so far. They got off to a blinding start when they won their opening four matches but they have hit the buffers in recent times with four defeats on the trot although we should be quick to point out that there have been mitigating circumstances for some of the defeats.
They have been without their captain for most of them and that is never good but two of the losses were to the top two in the table while another was to Northamptonshire and the other was a rain affected slogathon which they lost the toss in so we can almost let them off each defeat but they need to turn the corner soon.
Nottinghamshire
It has been an up and down campaign for Nottinghamshire as well. The one trend they have followed all season has been that their matches have been high scoring and as we are now into the second half of the campaign that is not likely to change now. A win here will move them into the top four.
While Nottinghamshire’s batting line up is very much their strength you do wonder how many matches they will win batting first because their bowling has just been carted regularly this season. In seven completed matches they have surrendered more than 190 with the ball on five occasions and that has to stop if they are to win this thing.
Team News
Clint McKay has been named in the Leicestershire squad for this match but whether he will play remains to be seen. He is said to be responded well to treatment but Leicestershire play twice in three nights so whether they risk him remains to be seen.
Nottinghamshire are without a number of players they began the campaign with. Luke Fletcher is out with the horror injury he sustained in the live game with Birmingham while Michael Lumb and Greg Smith have retired.

Betting
If Clint McKay is named in the Leicestershire side for this match then I may well have taken them to win the game but sadly once again when we go to check the weather forecast it is not looking good. It might clear up enough for some sort of a match but that doesn’t help us when it comes to betting.
It pretty much takes all the side markets out of play with the toss likely to have a huge bearing on any play that there is my instinct tells me this is one to sit out given the huge amount of cricket on this week. I’ll save my funds for another day.
