2017 NFL – Oakland Raiders at Washington Redskins Betting Preview

The Sunday Night Football in week three of the NFL season comes from FedEx Field as the Washington Redskins host the Oakland Raiders in what is likely to be an offensive battle to conclude a bumper day of action.

Both sides have made decent enough starts to the campaign and will be looking to improve on that on the first primetime clash for both this season.

Washington Redskins

The Skins suffered a defeat in their opening match of the season. Unfortunately for them it was a divisional clash against the Philadelphia Eagles. They bounced back with a solid win over the Los Angeles Rams last week which looks a better result after their performance on Thursday night and they will hope to build on that here.

There are no secrets with the Redskins. They favour the pass on offense and apart from Josh Norman they can be exposed on defence. Often their matches turn into shootouts and given the magnitude of this one we shouldn’t go into it expecting anything different here either. They will hope to use home advantage.

Oakland Raiders

After the disappointment of the way last season ended credit must go to the Oakland Raiders who have begun this campaign with a perfect two from two. The Raiders took care of the Titans in their opening match of the season before dishing out something of a beating to the New York Jets last week.

With Derek Carr showing no ill signs of the broken leg that wrecked Oakland’s season last year we should not be surprised with the start the Raiders have made. They have offensive weapons everywhere you look and while their defence is not the best they have enough on it to make the plays when necessary.

Betting

I like Oakland Raiders in this match. The Washington passing game hasn’t caught fire yet and with Jordan Reed questionable for this one Cousins may need to rely more on Terrelle Pryor who has had the drops about him this season.

It is almost a guarantee that the Raiders will put up points given the variety in their offense while they have enough on defence to restrict the Redskins, especially if that passing game doesn’t get going. I’ll take Oakland to cover a field goal here.

Another bet that I like is the passing yards of Jared Cook. Washington have already given up 93 yards to Zach Ertz and 95 yards to Gerald Everett which suggests to me they have an issue of covering tight ends. Cook has already caught seven passes this season and if he can catch a couple of passes with some yards after the catch, which looks very much possible, then he can surpass his 44.5 yard line.
