One of the best days of the golfing year is upon us as the final round of The Players Championship will be played out at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday. It is Mother’s Day in the States and we’re set for a mother of a finish to the tournament too as the stars of golf look to get their hands on this prestigious title.

Saturday Recap
We had a winner and a loser in the two bets we had on Saturday with Ian Poulter comfortably seeing off Chez Reavie but Louis Oosthuizen falling a shot shy of Kyle Stanley in a round where he didn’t play especially well.
Going into the final round we have joint leaders as JB Holmes and Kyle Stanley lead the way on nine under par with Oosthuizen one back on eight under and Si-Woo Kim a further shot back at seven under. Emiliano Grillo and Ian Poulter lie three off the lead at six under par with a group of players on five under par who include The Masters champion Sergio Garcia and Alex Noren still in with every chance.
Sunday 2 balls
As ever we have all of the pairings priced up for the final round of the tournament and there is one player who I think is overpriced in them and that will make up my sole bet in the Sunday 2 balls.
Louis Oosthuizen vs Si-Woo Kim
Match tees off at 19.20 BST
I backed Louis Oosthuizen on Saturday but he came off the course saying he didn’t hit the ball very well which given the wind that was around surprised me because he is a very good wind player so maybe his confidence has taken a bit of a hit after that. Si-Woo Kim fired in a terrific 68 on Saturday which would have been a couple better but for a brain fade at the 16th hole when he found the drink.
I don’t expect those brain fades to happen in this round though and the one thing we know about the Asian players is that they cope with pressure very well. While I accept on what he has achieved in the game thus far Oosthuizen is a worthy favourite I can’t not have a small bet on Kim who has a beautiful swing which stands up under pressure.
Outright Betting
It hasn’t been the best week for my outright bets although I do hope to collect on a couple of the side markets but given that Kim is 14/1 outright even though he is only two back I have to have a small punt on him.
Kim won the Wyndham going away last year and you don’t win around courses like that by so far if you haven’t got anything about you. In very tough conditions he shot one of the best rounds of the day on Saturday so I think he has every chance on Sunday. JB Holmes simply can’t win the tournament if he drives like he did on Saturday and I’m not sure Kyle Stanley will handle the pressure.
Those two could bring each other down and if the winner doesn’t come from the final group then unless someone like Sergio Garcia makes a run from further back this could be set up for the Korean to land his biggest title to date.
