2017 Presidents Cup Golf – Final Day Singles Betting Preview

After three completely dominant days the USA are on the brink of winning the Presidents Cup as they need just one point from the 12 singles which will be played at Liberty National over the course of Sunday evening.

At one stage on Saturday it looked like being won before the singles were played but a late fightback from Si Woo Kim and Anirban Lahiri prolonged the inevitable for a little bit longer. That all means we have a largely irrelevant set of singles to come which betting on is not going to be easy but we’ll have a go!

First four matches

Kevin Chappell and Marc Leishman are the two men who have been given the honour of leading their teams away on Sunday while Charley Hoffman will take on Jason Day in the second match of the afternoon. One of the matches of the singles comes after that when Justin Thomas goes up against Hideki Matsuyama before the opening four games conclude with Daniel Berger facing off with Si Woo Kim in a rookie battle.

Middle four matches

Matt Kuchar does battle with the South African star Charl Schwartzel in what is the fifth match of the schedule. Two really good looking games follow them when Patrick Reed plays Louis Oosthuizen for the second singles in a row while Dustin Johnson faces Branden Grace. Match eight could be one of the driving lovers as Brooks Koepka faces Adam Scott.

Last four matches

The closing four matches of the competition are likely to be dead rubbers but the International players will be looking to impress ahead of Royal Melbourne in 2019. Jordan Spieth goes up against Jhonattan Vegas before Kevin Kisner takes on Anirban Lahiri. The penultimate match of the cup sees Phil Mickelson playing Adam Hadwin before Rickie Fowler faces Emiliano Grillo in the last match on the course.

Betting

It is a shame this competition hasn’t been closer because there are a couple of matches right down the order that had the potential to be good betting opportunities but that is not going to be the case now sadly. I’ll take two in the singles and stick to the top of the order.

Marc Leishman looks a good thing in the opening match. He’s a decent match player and has been playing very well recently. Kevin Chappell hasn’t done a whole lot wrong this week but it is a different thing when you are alone in these things and he’s experiencing that for the first time. The Internationals will lose on Sunday but Leishman may delay the USA victory salute a little longer.

I was going to be on Justin Thomas on Sunday whoever he was playing but I’m very happy to take him against a Hideki Matsuyama who need not have bothered turning up this week with the way he has played. It might be that he fancies the job now he’s on his own but he needs a massive improvement to see off the player of the week so far. If the competition is still live at this point expect Thomas to shut the door on it.
