There is just one match in the Royal London One Day Cup on Saturday but it could easily be a One Day International given the quality that is on show. The match sees Nottinghamshire taking on Yorkshire at Trent Bridge in a key match in the North Group.
It could be argued that these two are the best two sides in the group when they have their star players available so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this one.
Nottinghamshire
The Outlaws have already played one match in the competition this season when they were turned over by an underrated Worcestershire side although there was a bit of rain around which helped the Rapids in that match. How much we should take from that result remains to be seen but I rate Worcestershire so I certainly don’t hold it against Nottinghamshire.
We know Nottinghamshire have a top class bowling attack. It is quite possible that their entire attack for this match will be international cricketers and with leading batsmen fit for them too they will be looking to kick their tournament into life. Successive defeats in a short format like this one is could be costly.
Yorkshire Vikings
This will be Yorkshire’s debut in the competition and it will be interesting to see how they go in one day cricket this season under a new captain and coach. I often think a side who has the tools for the Championship should be able to go well in this format of the game too but apart from the odd exception Yorkshire’s recent one day record is quite poor.
That record makes little sense other than that they deliberately focus on other formats but with their bowling attack they should be winning one day trophies. It will be interesting to see if they can begin with a win here because later in the competition when their big players leave they’ll need as many wins as they can get.
Team News
James Pattinson is in line to make a one day debut for Nottinghamshire in this match. Alex Hales and Stuart Broad are both available as is Jake Ball. This looks a full strength Nottinghamshire side.
Yorkshire have the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid available here. They will all be in the England squads later in the season so having them back is huge. Jack Brooks remains on the injury list.

Betting
It is hard to bet on the match winner of this one because there is just so much quality on show. I have this as a 50/50 match so the home side could be a bit of value at odds against but I’m not sure I want to be taking on a side with the likes of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, David Willey et al in it.
I saw a picture of the wicket tweeted on Friday and it looks like an absolute belter although that isn’t a surprise because the one day wickets have played well here for a couple of seasons. There were some crazy scores on this ground last year not least England’s 444/3 and I’m expecting the scoring to be big in this one.
The total runs line for the match is 555.5 which means we need a couple of scores around the 280 mark. That score is par in 50 over cricket these days so on this wicket with the quality of batsmen on show that we have I’m expecting this to go over that line.
