There are three more matches in the Royal London One Day Cup on Wednesday with one of them on television for us to enjoy. Attention is beginning to turn towards the start of England’s international summer at the end of the week but before then we have some domestic cricket to focus on.
The TV match is one of the two late starts. It is the Hampshire vs Middlesex clash at the Ageas Bowl while the two matches away from the cameras include one from each group. We’ll begin with the TV clash.

Hampshire vs Middlesex
Two sides who would have had eyes on getting out of this group face off in an important match for both sides. The two teams have each played two matches in the tournament and both have already had one defeat and you can’t afford too many of them in this competition.
Middlesex have been hit hard by international call ups for this match. England have denied them the use of Steven Finn while Eoin Morgan is in the IPL. Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh are away with Ireland. Hampshire have no such issues. Apart from Rilee Rossouw, Fidel Edwards and Chris Wood Hampshire are at full strength for this match.
I expect Hampshire to win the game. I would have expected that if Middlesex had the players they are missing fit but as they don’t I see absolutely no reason to oppose them. I think they will lead through 15 overs too. Hampshire’s top four all score freely while Middlesex will have a new opening partnership and they’ll have to dealt with the new ball spells of Kyle Abbott and Reece Topley. That won’t be easy.
With Paul Stirling away for Middlesex now it could be down to the middle order to deliver the goods and with that in mind John Simpson looks a little overpriced to top score for the visitors in this match. He top scored in the opening match of the competition for the Londoners and made 100 and 65 against Hampshire in the Championship last season. At 13/2 he’s a more than fair price to top score.
Yorkshire vs Durham
Two stalwarts of the North Group meet when Yorkshire host Durham at Headingley. Yorkshire have played twice in this competition and have won both matches while Durham got themselves into positive points for the season when they beat Warwickshire in their last match.
Both teams go into the match off the back of resounding wins but both have lost players to England control. I would normally fancy Yorkshire to win this match but Adil Rashid and Liam Plunkett are big bowlers for them and that is enough for me to leave this one alone.
Northamptonshire vs Worcestershire
Two sides with very different fortunes in the competition so far meet in the other match of the day when Northants with two emphatic defeats take on a Worcestershire side who have won both of their matches to date by pretty impressive margins.
Northamptonshire have been well beaten because they have only taken two wickets from their bowlers in the two matches they have played and while Richard Gleeson and Rory Kleinveldt return from injury for this match I just wonder how fit they are or whether they are back as a needs must exercise.
Worcestershire have been rampant in the tournament so far and although having no Moeen Ali is a blow in this match they can certainly replace him as they spend most of the season without him these days. Worcestershire bat deeper than Northants and their bowling looks more reliable too. I fancy them to win this one at a very tidy price.
