2017 Specsavers County Championship – Friday 19th May Matches Betting Preview

With the break for the group stage of the Royal London One Day Cup now over it is back to the longer format of the game for the county pros on Friday when the County Championship returns with a full set of fixtures.

We had three rounds of matches prior to the break for the 50 over competition and now we have another six weeks of Championship action before the T20 so sides will be looking to gather some momentum beginning with their match this week.

Division One

There are four matches in the top division this week with all eight sides obviously in action. Early pacesetters Surrey make the short trip across the river to take on Middlesex this week while Lancashire in second place host the former champions Yorkshire in the first Roses match of the Championship season.

Hampshire in third face a tricky little trip to Chelmsford to take on an Essex side who will be buzzing from their 50 over form and in the other match the bottom two meet at Taunton when Somerset host Warwickshire.

Division Two

Three matches in the second division begin on Friday with the leaders Nottinghamshire making the journey to Wales to take on Glamorgan at the SWALEC while second placed Kent head to Grace Road for a clash with Leicestershire. The other match sees Derbyshire playing host to Worcestershire for the second time this week.

Betting

We might need to dodge a few showers over the weekend but I’m going to take my chances with two in the top division this week. In the Roses clash it must be said Kyle Jarvis could be a huge miss for Lancashire especially with Yorkshire having their talisman back in Jack Brooks. Ryan Sidebottom returns too which gives Yorkshire a strong looking attack even with their England players away. The rest of the sides look fairly evenly matched but that edge Yorkshire have with the ball could be decisive.

The other bet I like is on Somerset to beat a worryingly poor looking Warwickshire side. It isn’t just this competition that Warwickshire have had issues in. They were equally as poor in the Royal London One Day Cup too. Somerset found form in that competition and they can use that positivity in the dressing room to pick up a much needed Championship win here.
