The third day of the US Open is set to be a bumper one of tennis action. Lengthy periods of rain on Tuesday meant hardly any play could be completed on the outside courts which means that the remainder of the first round and beginning of the second takes place on Wednesday with plenty of matches to enjoy.
The forecast is much better on Wednesday so we should get the bulk of the scheduled matches in although if there are any lengthy battles it could be a late night especially on the outside courts where there are five matches slated.
Tuesday Recap
There may not have been much play on Tuesday but in the play that there was we were able to bag a winner as Naomi Osaka didn’t just win one set against Angelique Kerber she beat her in straight sets to deliver the goods on the only bet we had completed.
Elsewhere there were simple wins for Rafael Nadal, Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Strycova while Jelena Ostapenko also made it through to the next round.
Arthur Ashe Stadium
Somewhat controversially given the options available it is Eugenie Bouchard who gets things going on Ashe. She takes on Evgeniya Rodina before Juan Martin del Potro is back on his favourite court. He faces Henri Laaksonen in another held over match from Tuesday. The last day session match sees Timea Babos taking on Maria Sharapova in the second round.
It is the second round all the way in the night session too. Venus Williams gets the floodlit treatment when she faces Oceane Dodin before a potential cracker between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Denis Shapovalov.
Louis Armstrong Stadium
Once the match between Elina Svitolina and Katerina Siniakova has concluded there is a full schedule on this court on Wednesday. It begins with Nick Kyrgios taking on John Millman before Alison Riske faces Coco Vandeweghe in another first round match. The second round clash between John Isner and Hyeon Chung follows them before Steve Johnson and Kyle Edmund round off the day.
Grandstand
The match between Dominic Thiem and Alex de Minaur finishes first on this court before a heavy schedule gets going. Grigor Dimitrov faces Vaclav Safranek before Svetlana Kuznetsova takes on Marketa Vondrousova. The first round continues as Allie Kiick plays Daria Gavrilova before a second round match between Borna Coric and Alex Zverev rounds off proceedings.
Court 17
Another heavy schedule takes place on this court too. It begins with the first round match between Jeremy Chardy and Gael Monfils before Nao Hibino and Catherine Bellis battle it out. The second round clash between Lucas Pouille and Jared Donaldson follows them before Florian Mayer faces Marin Cilic. The action concludes with Caroline Wozniacki against Ekaterina Makarova with those two set for an extremely late night.
Best of the Rest
There are tons of matches on around the ground on Wednesday on what looks a brilliant day to have a ground pass. Tomas Berdych, David Goffin and Agnieszka Radwanska are all on Court 5 while Dominika Cibulkova takes on Sloane Stephens on Court 10.
Out on Court 7 Roberto Bautista Agut is on show. Kevin Anderson, Elena Vesnina, Garbine Muguruza, Fabio Fognini and Pablo Carreno Busta are just some of the other seeded players who can be seen on the outside courts.

Men’s Betting
I still have two bets carried over from Tuesday but there are three more that I like on Wednesday. The first of those comes out on Court 17 as the American Jared Donaldson takes on Lucas Pouille who really shot to prominence here last year. The Frenchman is not in the same form this year as he was then though and I fancy the American can take advantage of that. Pouille hasn’t won since Wimbledon and Donaldson took care of him in Montreal recently. I fancy he’ll do likewise here.
Later in the evening Kyle Edmund takes on Steve Johnson for the second week in a row and I like the Briton in that match. Johnson is all power and I think that will suit Edmund because eventually the American will fall into the trap and go to Edmund’s forehand and there isn’t much of a future in that. This might be a late night lengthy affair but I think that might only bring the best out of the Brit and he can see off Johnson.
I’m also going to take a chance on Denis Shapovalov. We saw that he is the ultimate entertainer with his run in Montreal a few weeks ago and the night session on Ashe was almost made for him. You could say the same about Jo-Wilfried Tsonga too of course but I’ve a feeling the game of the Canadian could be awkward for the American. Shapovalov finds some great angles and his variety could have the Frenchman in a pickle. I’m with the Canadian here.
Women’s Betting
I won with my only bet in the women’s draw on Tuesday and I am taking two more on Wednesday. Aleksandra Krunic pulled off the big upset of the opening day when she dumped Jo Konta out of the tournament and I expect her to take care of the Australian player Ajla Tomljanovic who isn’t having the best of years. Once she got going Krunic hit the ball very well against Konta and a repeat of that will be plenty here.
Speaking of hitting the ball well I like Sloane Stephens to see off Dominika Cibulkova. The Slovakian was taken the distance in the first round which is not good and it was hard not to be impressed with the way Stephens played in the first round. Stephens was the form horse coming in here and she can show that in this match.
