2017 US Open Tennis – Day 6 Betting Preview

We will reach the end of the third round in the US Open on Saturday with the last 16 of both singles draws being known by the end of the day. Things have really opened up since the beginning of the tournament and the intrigue and intensity of that is beginning to cover the event nicely.

Day 5 Recap

The men’s draw in the bottom half has opened right up. Friday saw the end of the two biggest seeds left in it as Marin Cilic and John Isner, annoyingly both our outright bets, bit the dust to two very impressive performances. That means we are already guaranteed a brand new Grand Slam finalist next Sunday. The women’s draw was less eventful with the main players all making it through.

Sadly it was another day to forget for us betting wise. We were denied a winner when Kyle Edmund pulled out when comfortably behind and things never really improved from there so there is work to do on Saturday for sure.

Arthur Ashe Stadium

The number one seed Karolina Pliskova gets the opening slot on Ashe on Saturday when she played Shuai Zhang. Agnieszka Radwanska then meets Coco Vandeweghe in the second match of the day before Rafael Nadal and Leonardo Mayer draw the day session to a close.

Roger Federer is back on the main court to get the night session underway. He will play Feliciano Lopez before Elena Vesnina and Madison Keys take to the court to conclude the day.

Louis Armstrong

The men’s match between Adrian Mannarino and Dominic Thiem gets things going on Arnstrong on Saturday. They are followed by the French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and Daria Kasatkina. One of the matches of the day follows that as David Goffin and Gael Monfils oppose each other before a doubles match ends things.

Grandstand

Viktor Troicki and Aleksandr Degopolov meet to start things off on the Grandstand court before the headline clash between Roberto Bautista Agut and Juan Martin del Potro takes place. Elina Svitolina and Shelby Rogers meet in the women’s match on this court before the Bryans are in doubles action to end the day.

Court 17

Philipp Kohlschreiber meets John Millman on the first match on show on this court on Saturday before Jennifer Brady faces Monica Niculescu in the only women’s match on show here. Two doubles matches rounds off the action on this court.

Court 5

There are three singles matches on this court on Saturday. Lucie Safarova is up first when she plays Kurumi Nara before Kaia Kanepi takes on Angelique Kerber’s conqueror Naomi Osaka. They are follow by Damir Dzumhur and Andrey Rublev before a mixed doubles match ends play.

Men’s Betting

I like two in the men’s draw on Saturday. As a big fan of Juan Martin del Potro it pains me to take him on but I think the slow nature of these courts sets up perfectly for Roberto Bautista Agut and with the weakness that exists in the backhand of the Argentine I expect the Spaniard to feast on that. These two only do close battles and this one might be another of those but the longer it goes the better you would think it will favour last week’s winner so it is RBA for me.

The other bet I like is the young gun Andrey Rublev to see off Damir Dzumhur. Rublev showed all the promise that he has in beating Dimitrov in the previous round and while he can be wild at times he can be brilliant at others. This has been the tournament of the coming of age of the younger generation and Rublev is following suit. Dzumhur was runner-up last week but hasn’t hit the ball that well here and his impressive run could well end in this match.

Women’s Betting

I like just the one in the women’s draw on Saturday and that sees the heavily underrated Agnieszka Radwanska taking on Coco Vandeweghe. Radwanska goes about her business nicely and these slower courts should be ideal for her. Not only will it negate the power of the American but it will give her longer to hit her shots and allow her to find the angles needed to get Vandeweghe on the run. In these conditions I have to take the Pole to come through against a player who flatters to deceive on the big stage of late.
