The Premier League weekend concludes with the Monday Night Football which many are calling the ‘Marco Silva derby’ as his Everton side take on the team he used to manage in Watford in a big match for both sides.
Everton can return to the top six with a win while a victory for Watford would see them back into the top 10 and see them sitting handily heading into the Christmas period which is approaching very quickly.
Everton
A good run of form prior to the last international break sent Everton up into the top six but an unfortunate loss against Liverpool last weekend and a poor draw with Newcastle in midweek has seen the chasing pack close right in on them and with a trip to Man City to come on Sunday this match is one the Toffees really could do with winning.
In an ideal world we would see Everton looking a bit more convincing even on their own patch. A lot of their wins come by the odd goal with their inability to defend set pieces a large reason for that. If they can find some defensive stability then there is no reason why with the talent they have at the other end of the pitch they won’t win games comfortably.
Watford
It was going very well for Watford at the beginning of the season but they arrive at Goodison Park with no win in five matches and in need of turning that around else they could yet get sucked into the events at the wrong end of the table. To be fair to the Hornets, something I’m often loathe to do, they haven’t had the easiest run of fixtures.
A look down their matches the one result which stands out against them is the 1-1 draw at Southampton on the day Charlie Austin had his rant which to be fair Watford could and should have lost and good sides just don’t lose to Southampton. That would be a real concern for me as would their away form overall with just wins at Burnley and Wolves this term.
Team News
Everton have Morgan Schneiderlin back in their ranks after he has recovered from injury but where he could get in remains to be seen. Bernard, Theo Walcott and Michael Keane were all rested against Newcastle and could all be recalled.
Watford remain without Etienne Capoue who is still suspended having been sent off against Leicester last weekend while Will Hughes is a doubt. Tom Cleverley could be involved for the first time since January.
Betting
This isn’t the easiest match to bet on in my eyes. Everton should be the likeliest winners but they are pretty short and you would have said they should have beaten Newcastle and Huddersfield here and they failed on both counts. That said given who I support I’m never in a rush to back Watford so that makes life difficult. The over tempts me but that is pretty skinny too.
I always think about taking a big long shot to score against Everton because they are pony from set pieces but there isn’t anything that appeals to me there either so I’m happy to take my profit from the weekend and wait for a day where something more substantial comes up.
