The New Year begins with another set of fixtures in the Premier League and they get underway with three matches on New Year’s Day as the division heads towards a weekend break for the third round of the FA Cup.
The three games kick off at three different times with two of them live on TV for those of us who are in the UK so it is a perfect way to get 2019 going. Although the big match isn’t until Thursday there should still be plenty of entertainment on show on Tuesday.

Everton vs Leicester City (12.30)
The first match of 2019 sees Everton taking on Leicester City in a match where both sides will be out to win after disappointing outings in their final match in 2018. Everton were beaten at Brighton while Leicester slipped up against Cardiff so both will be eager to start 2019 off on the right foot.
Consistency isn’t something we get from either of these two sides so this is a pretty difficult match to bet on in many ways. They say never bet on the early kick off and just for once I’m going to heed that advice and leave this one alone with nothing really standing out in terms of a bet.
Arsenal vs Fulham (15.00)
It might be that the best match of the day comes from the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal will look to make up for their thrashing at Anfield on Saturday when they take on a Fulham side for whom a second successive victory will do wonders for their chances of staying up.
We saw the worst side of Arsenal at Anfield in that they just can’t defend as much as they try but a match like this you would think they will go on the offensive and look to pile misery on Fulham as much as they can. Fulham might adopt a slightly more cautious approach than normal in this match but even if it is only on the counter attack they are going to get chances to score in this one.
If Arsenal click into gear then they would easily cover a 3.25 goal line themselves but if Fulham are going to stay up they need to find ways to score against defences like this Arsenal one. I think the over has to be the way forward in this one.

Cardiff City vs Tottenham Hotspur (17.30)
The final match of the opening day of 2019 takes place in the Welsh capital as Cardiff City play host to a Tottenham Hotspur side desperate to win to keep their feint Premier League title chances intact. In order to do that three points is a must for the visitors.
Cardiff have been very good at home but generally when the big boys go up against them they are found massively wanting. Manchester United thrashed them just before Christmas while Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have all scored for or more against them so I’m expecting a Tottenham win but they are no price and the absence of Son Heung-min is enough of a concern to let them win at the price on offer without risking big money on it.
