The penultimate weekend in the Premier League campaign continues on Saturday with five more matches with every end of the table in the spotlight on what could just be the deciding day of so much for this term.
We have a bonus TV match on offer on Saturday which means that three of these games are available to us in the UK so there is plenty of reason to stay out of the rain and in front of the box to enjoy the action.
Early Kick Off
Things get underway at the Vitality Stadium where Tottenham Hotspur look to secure their top four finish when they take on a Bournemouth side who are always dangerous in front of their own fans, supporters they will be entertaining for the final time this season. Spurs have that Champions League tie in midweek but they can’t afford to take their eye off the ball here else things could get very nervy for next week.
3pm Matches
There are only two matches in the usual 3pm kick off slot on Saturday afternoon with one of them being a dead rubber at the London Stadium where West Ham conclude their home campaign by entertaining a Southampton side who will be celebrating their safety for next season. With little on the game you would think this would be an entertaining offering for those in attendance at the Hammers’ ground.
The other match has a lot on it for Wolverhampton Wanderers. They can move within a point of securing seventh spot which could yield European football next season if they can beat Fulham at Molineux. Fulham have dramatically improved since their relegation was confirmed although to be fair they would have struggled to be much worse. Wolves go to Liverpool on the final day so they really need a win here in that race for seventh.
Late Game
The stakes are huge in the first of the two late matches when Cardiff City take on Crystal Palace in a match the home side simply have to win. They are four points behind Brighton at the bottom end of the table so they know if they are beaten here then their return to the Premier League will be a short lived one as they will be relegated. A win keeps them alive for another week at least. Crystal Palace are a dangerous outfit on their travels and they have one last chance to show that this season.
Saturday Night Football
We then focus on the very top of the table where Liverpool will go in search of the win they need to propel themselves back above Manchester City. They head to St James’ Park to take on a Newcastle United side who aren’t playing for anything but who can never go easy in front of their hugely demanding and passionate home fans. There is the potential for this one to be quite a nervy affair as the evening goes on.

Betting
I’ll chance my arm at three value bets over the course of the day. If one of them lands we’ll be in profit and that is no bad place to be. I’ll start at Molineux where the Fulham-draw double chance looks overpriced at 17/10. Wolves’ issues against bottom half sides have been well documented throughout the season and even recently they couldn’t see off Brighton at home and they are useless. Fulham have shown real signs of life under Scott Parker and are working a lot harder than they were beforehand. They carry a goal threat from plenty of areas which you need against Wolves and so at the prices I’ll take them to avoid defeat here.
Given the situation I think we can eliminate the draw from the match between Cardiff City and Crystal Palace. That result relegates Cardiff so even if they are level late on they will launch the kitchen sink. That might only play into the hands of this dangerous Palace side on the counter attack though and I’ll go with the away side here. They might not be playing for anything but this is a team that loves to pile forward on the break. Cardiff will be ripe for being countered so the obvious bet is to take Palace to beat a side much more limited than them in such a situation.
The logical thing would be to expect Liverpool to beat Newcastle but given that we can pretty much take the draw out of the equation here I can’t be ignoring quotes of more than 9/1 on a Newcastle United win here. It would be natural for Liverpool to suffer a negative reaction to events in Barcelona in midweek and struggle to get themselves up for this game again. There are only so many hits a side can take emotionally after all. Newcastle have shown they can keep it tight against the very best this season and the longer they do that here the more desperate Liverpool will have to get. That could bring a home win over much into play. It is worth a small bet.
