With many sides in action in the FA Cup this weekend, we have a reduced schedule in Sky Bet League 1, with just seven matches on the card, but it could still be an extremely important afternoon in the third tier nevertheless.
Six of the top 10 are in action over the course of the day while a couple of sides at the wrong end of proceedings will look to get themselves out of trouble on what looks like an extremely competitive card.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:
Barnsley v Rochdale
Burton Albion v Bradford City
Coventry City v Blackpool
Fleetwood Town v Scunthorpe United
Peterborough United v Charlton Athletic
Southend United v Luton Town
Wycombe Wanderers v Plymouth Argyle
Big Matches
We could have new leaders in the competition by the end of Saturday evening as Luton Town will replace Portsmouth at the summit if they avoid defeat when they head to Roots Hall to take on Southend United. The other big match in the afternoon comes from London Road where Peterborough United host a Charlton Athletic side who will move into the top three should they avoid defeat.
Best of the Rest
Elsewhere, Barnsley could enhance their league position if they can come out on top against a Rochdale who sit one spot above the drop zone. One team in the relegation places who are in action on Saturday are Bradford City. They could do with a win when they go to Carabao Cup semi-finalists Burton Albion. Two form sides meet at Highbury Stadium when Fleetwood Town go up against Scunthorpe United. Plymouth will look to continue their resurgence when they travel to Wycombe while Coventry City host Blackpool in the battle of the two lowest scoring teams in the top 10.

Betting
I was tempted by the under 2.5 goals in the Coventry City vs Blackpool match but in the end I have decided to go with just the one bet across Saturday’s matches, which comes in the match at Oakwell where Barnsley play host to Rochdale in a clash in which I’m very much expecting a home win, and a decent one at that as well.
Barnsley are unbeaten at home this season and have only leaked eight goals in 13 matches at Oakwell. They are 6-2-0 in their last eight at home and are scoring for fun at the minute. They take on a Rochdale who are leaking goals all over the shop and who have just one point in their last five matches. They have already conceded four at Oxford and five at Doncaster in recent times while in the reverse fixture, Barnsley beat them 4-0. The last two league matches between these two at Oakwell have seen Barnsley win 5-0 and 6-1. I’m expecting another one-sided beating for Rochdale here.
