South Africa vs Pakistan – 4th ODI Betting Preview

South Africa have their first of two chances to win the ODI series with Pakistan on Sunday, when the two sides head to Johannesburg for ‘Pink Day, as the fourth ODI of the five takes place at The Wanderers.

Pakistan know if they are going to keep the series alive they have to win this match and with the disappointment of not converting a good position last time out they will be eager to take things to Cape Town.

South Africa

It wasn’t a perfect performance in the last ODI for South Africa, and who knows what would have happened had the rain not denied us a finish at the end of the game, but they did enough in the play that was possible to win the match. The good thing for the home side was how their batting did not panic in the face of a pretty daunting total. We don’t know for certain if they would have completed the run chase but they certainly looked well positioned to run it close.

South Africa will probably be a little bit disappointed that they allowed Pakistan to get away from them with the ball. Admittedly the pitch at Centurion was wonderful to bat on but even so there was a lack of spite from the Proteas bowlers that we have seen so far on this tour. Conditions should suit their bowlers here which will benefit them.

Pakistan

At the halfway stage in the previous match, Pakistan will have been expecting to go on and retake the lead in the series themselves but that is not how things developed, as they lacked a bit of intensity with the ball. When they dismissed Quinton de Kock there was a thought that they had broken the back of the bulk of the challenge and maybe that explained why they could not kick on.

Pakistan should take confidence from their performance with the bat in Centurion, because we all know it is by far the weaker of their two facets. It won’t be every match that their bowling attack is found wanting so if they can continue to put up the 300+ scores you would think that they will win plenty more than they lose.

Team News

Tabraiz Shamsi didn’t have the best of matches in Centurion so it might be that Imran Tahir comes in for him here. Beuran Hendricks should have done enough to earn another chance on his home ground.

Faheem Ashraf could in line for a return to the side if the small boundaries here mean that Imad Wasim’s spin is not required. Shan Masood is still waiting to come in but whether he gets his chance here remains to be seen.

I’m not overly sure what the reason is but pink day always seems to deliver good, high scoring matches, and with the way the ball flies here and the size of the boundaries I’m expecting both these teams to pepper the ropes on plenty of occasions. We all remember that famous match between South Africa and Australia here and while I’m not expecting anything on that scale I do expect runs to flow.

With that in mind I like over 9.5 sixes here. Both teams have plenty of men who can clear most ropes in their ranks let alone these ones and with the bowlers not having had a lot of time to recover and go again the batsmen should be the ones taking control of the game. This is a ground that is notorious for sixes. We can get another 10 here.
