The last full midweek round of matches in Sky Bet League 1 for 2018 takes place on Tuesday evening as the entire division look for three more valuable points ahead of the weekend off for the next round of the FA Cup.
The top of the table tightened up on Saturday and there is a match which will have a big say in that end of proceedings on Tuesday while teams at the bottom will be eager for a win ahead of the time off coming up.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Wycombe Wanderers
Bristol Rovers v Gillingham
Burton Albion v Charlton Athletic
Doncaster Rovers v Blackpool
Fleetwood Town v Coventry City
Luton Town v Bradford City
Oxford United v Rochdale
Peterborough United v AFC Wimbledon
Portsmouth v Walsall
Shrewsbury Town v Plymouth Argyle
Southend United v Scunthorpe United
Sunderland v Barnsley
Big Matches
There is no doubt which the big match of the evening is. It is the one from the Stadium of Light as Sunderland in second host Barnsley who begin the night in third but will either go second with a win or drop down the table should they be beaten. Leaders Portsmouth may well get the chance to extend their lead at the top when they host Walsall with Luton in fourth looking to take advantage of any dropping of points above them when they host bottom of the pile Bradford at fortress Kenilworth Road.
Best of the Rest
Peterborough United in fifth look to revive their form when they host lowly AFC Wimbledon with Charlton in sixth heading to the Pirelli Stadium to take on Burton Albion. At the other end of the table Oxford will look to move away from the bottom four when they host Rochdale while Plymouth head to Shrewsbury looking to continue their recent upturn. Two promoted sides meet when Accrington Stanley host Wycombe Wanderers.

Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the night. Peterborough United have been wretched at home in recent times but they will not get a better chance to claim an elusive three points than when AFC Wimbledon visit London Road. Wimbledon are a very limited side who offer little in the way of a genuine goal threat and who should succumb to the pace and power of the Peterborough attacking play. It might not be advantageous that Steve Evans has a touchline ban and can’t referee the game from the sidelines as usual but that won’t stop his assistant Paul Raynor. The Posh chairman has been vocal on Twitter about how they need to be doing better. Panic could really set in if they don’t win this but I think they’ll be fine. They look a great bet especially with the draw cover.
There are few better sides in the country better than Luton Town on their own patch and even though Luton have a 1.5 goal handicap to cover against Bradford City I still think they will do so. Luton’s last three home wins have been by four goals, three and two in the league and there was a 2-0 win over Wycombe in the cup in that time too and if anything the Hatters look to be getting better. Bradford have been guilty of shipping a lot of goals this season. Gillingham, who Luton eased past on Saturday, put four past them while Coventry, Accrington and Blackpool – three of the lower scorers in the league have all put three or more past them. If Luton score early this could be a nasty night for the Bantams.
