2018 China Open Snooker Qualifying – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of the China Open qualifying event takes place on Sunday when another 30 men take to the green baize looking to secure their passage to the main draw and the potential Promised Land later in the year.

It was an eventful first day of action in the event with a huge shock when Judd Trump was sent packing in the final match of the evening. Stuart Bingham, Neil Robertson and Mark Williams are among the big names looking to avoid going the same way on Sunday.

Morning Session

The day begins with two of the more talented young stars in the game on the streamed tables. Luca Brecel will look to make progress be it with one cue or two when he goes up against the perfectly capable Zhao Xintong while the Chinese star Yan Bingtao meets John Astley. Away from the spotlight Lee Walker faces Robert Milkins with Michael White playing Xu Si. The other match sees Dave Gilbert taking on Billy Joe Castle.

Afternoon Session

We have tournament winners Mark King and Neil Robertson on the live streamed tables in the middle session of the day. King takes on Leo Fernandez who dumped Ding out of the UK Championship but has done little else this season while Robertson plays Robin Hull. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh faces Ian Burns on one of the outside tables with the other two featuring Mark Davis against Alexander Ursenbacher and Jimmy Robertson facing Christopher Keogan.

Evening Session

The evening session is all about the return of Stuart Bingham. The Essex potter has been out for a few months with his ban for betting activities but he returns on a streamed table against Jimmy White. Mark Williams occupies the other streamed table when he meets Ian Preece. The newly married Matt Selt faces Chris Totten on one of the outside tables with Tian Pengfei and Craig Steadman on another. Oliver Lines and Nigel Bond round off the day away from the cameras.

Betting

I like two bets over the course of the day on Sunday. We begin in the afternoon where Mark King should breeze past Leo Fernandez. If we take Fernandez’s win over Ding out of play, and he was 5-1 down in that, then he has done absolutely nothing this season. Last time King played over this distance he made the quarter final of the UK Championship dumping out John Higgins along the way. This distance should see King comfortable from the off and as such he can run out an easy winner here.

Nigel Bond has only beaten one professional player all season and that was only Christopher Keogan which isn’t saying a huge amount. Oliver Lines might not have the results to his name that he would like but his losses in the main have been to superior players. He doesn’t play one of those here and having seen his father dumped out on Saturday he’ll be keen to bring the family some joy. He really should have plenty in hand in coming through this one.
