2018 China Open Snooker Qualifying – Day 3 Betting Preview

The third day of China Open qualifying takes place on Monday with another batch of players looking to win their match and book their place on the plane to Beijing later in the season. With the prize money on offer in this event being what it is we are set for another competitive set of matches.

The big names all made it through on Sunday, some with more work to do than others but they are off to Beijing nevertheless. On Monday we will see whether the Masters champion Mark Allen can progress as well as the likes of Shaun Murphy and Ryan Day.

Morning Session

Ryan Day will have the first use of one of the main tables when he lines up against the very talented Chinese player Lu Haotian while on the other streamed table Ricky Walden will be playing Aditya Mehta. The other three matches in this session see Zhou Yuelong playing Sean O’Sullivan, Alan McManus taking on Yuan Sijun and Jamie Jones playing Sam Craigie in what looks like a good match.

Afternoon Session

It is all about Shaun Murphy in this session. The Champion of Champions winner takes on David Grace on a streamed table for a place in Beijing while on the other streamed table we have Tom Ford up against Jamie Curtis-Barrett. The outside tables will see Fergal O’Brien playing Hammad Miah, Li Hang meeting Chen Zhe in a Chinese battle both will be eager to win and Robbie Williams facing Sanderson Lam.

Evening Session

The Masters champion Mark Allen plays his first competitive match since landing that title when he plays Allan Taylor on one of the streamed tables in the evening session. Barry Hawkins will occupy the other main table. He faces Josh Boileau. There are two matches on the outside tables too as Chris Wakelin plays Lukas Kleckers and Matthew Stevens meets Eden Sharav.

Betting

I’ll go with two over the course of Monday with the first of them coming in the morning session when Sam Craigie takes on Jamie Jones. Craigie has already beaten Jones this season. He won 4-3 in the Riga Masters and he also won 4-0 in the Northern Ireland Open last season so he seems to enjoy playing the Welshman. I’m not surprised because Craigie will get the chances to score against Jones and if Jones feels the pressure of being the favourite he will come unstuck again. Jones isn’t having the best season and he’s ripe for an upset here.

Lukas Kleckers made a name for himself when he beat Neil Robertson in the Riga Masters but Robertson’s problems back then have been well documented since then. That remains the only win the German has had on tour which is something of an issue. Kleckers is talented enough but struggles to put frames together. Chris Wakelin is like that when he plays the very top players but his record against lower ranked players this season is very strong. Since the Indian Open back in August, Wakelin hasn’t lost to a player lower than him in the rankings. I think he’ll keep that going here and over this distance he should pull away from the German at some point.
