As ever in the European Tour events, Saturday is the last 32 day which means we have one round of matches played over two sessions in the European Darts Grand Prix as players jostle for positions on the final day of the event in Singelfinden.
This is the round the seeds come into the action so the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Rob Cross and Daryl Gurney all take to the stage for the first time this week on what should be a belting day of darts.
Afternoon Session
We get underway with a couple of contenders for the title in action when Ian White and Dave Chisnall begin proceedings. They don’t face each other of course. White takes on Madars Ramza of Latvia while Chisnall plays Matt Padgett. There is then an all-Dutch clash between Jelle Klaasen and Jermaine Wattimena before Joe Cullen faces the local lad Martin Schlinder to take us into the break.
We get going with a belter after the interval as Gerwyn Price takes on the former Lakeside finalist Danny Noppert. Michael Smith then plays the resurgent Arron Monk before two more crackers to round off the afternoon. They see Kim Huybrechts taking on Kyle Anderson and Simon Whitlock facing Jan Dekker.
Evening Session
The start to the evening should be quality as the World Grand Prix winner Daryl Gurney meets the World Championship semi-finalist Jamie Lewis. They are followed by Darren Webster facing Robert Marijanovic. The Asset is then back on the stage when Paul Nicholson faces Mervyn King. Mensur Suljovic takes us into the interval when he plays Jamie Caven.
The world number one and tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen takes us out of the break. He faces Alan Tabern while Peter Wright then plays former world finalist Kirk Shepherd. The final two matches of the night sees John Henderson playing James Wade in a good looking match and the world champion Rob Cross up against Vincent van der Voort in another.

Betting
This doesn’t look the best last 32 card to get stuck into in fairness so hopefully more bets will present itself on Sunday but there is one which will keep me entertained on Saturday and it comes in the afternoon session where Kim Huybrechts faces Kyle Anderson.
I’ve mentioned a few times how Huybrechts’ game has gone down the pan recently and that is a shame because at his very best he is a really good player to watch. Anderson now has the better form of the two and with every year that passes he looks more at home on the stage. It is fair to say that he has begun 2018 slowly but there is nothing wrong with that. He’s a class act and with the World Cup on the horizon I expect him to be pounding the practice board. He can get more practice this weekend by taking care of Huybrechts here.
