2018 European Darts Matchplay – Last 16 Betting Preview

After a high quality Saturday in the European Darts Matchplay, the tournament concludes on a busy Sunday in Hamburg when the last 16, quarter finals, semis and final are played out in the German city.

The highlight of the opening day of the tournament was the nine dart finish by Michael van Gerwen and hopefully we will get much more of the same on Sunday. Time restrictions will deny us the chance of previewing the evening session but we can cover the afternoon one which we will do here.

First Four Matches

It is the defending champion and nine dart man Michael van Gerwen who opens up the show on Sunday when he takes on a familiar foe in Robert Thornton. Ian White then meets Darren Webster in what is a repeat of a final of a tour event in midweek before Joe Cullen faces Justin Pipe. The action prior to the break sees Daryl Gurney taking on Stephen Bunting in what might be the tie of the last 16.

Later Four Matches

It is Jelle Klaasen who gets things back up and running after the interval when he takes on Andy Boulton before Jason Lowe has the chance to extend his amazing week when he faces Gerwyn Price. Mensur Suljovic will continue his quest for a second successive European Tour title when he plays Paul Rowley and then the afternoon action will conclude with William O’Connor taking on Kim Huybrechts for a quarter final spot.

Betting

This is a tricky afternoon to bet on and in the end there is just one bet that I like and that is Stephen Bunting to beat Daryl Gurney. Gurney has a really ordinary record in these tournaments this year which is a bit of a mystery and he laboured through on Saturday to suggest that little is going to change this weekend.

Bunting has been having a solid season without being amazing but he continually puts in a decent performance and when he is given the opportunity he usually takes it. Bunting had a decent enough win over Darius Labanauskas in the previous round and a repeat of his performance there could well be enough to see off a Gurney who for some reason is flattering to deceive a little at present.

Tips

WON – Back S.Bunting to beat D.Gurney for a 4/10 stake at 2.63 with Ladbrokes
