2021 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 1 Evening Session Tips and Betting Preview

The second part of the opening day of the Grand Slam of Darts forms the evening session of the popular tournament on Saturday when the four groups which do not begin in the afternoon get underway.

We saw the likes of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in the afternoon session and in the evening stars such as Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson take to the stage while we also have the TV return of Raymond van Barneveld.

First Four Matches

We begin in Group E of the competition where the second and third seeds will do battle as Gabriel Clemens and Mike de Decker meet. TV wins are short in supply for both these men and with Peter Wright to come later in the group there could be some nerves here with both knowing they probably need to win here. The second match of the night sees Jose de Sousa begin his defence of the title. He takes on the Canadian player Matt Campbell before one of the eye catching matches of the night takes place as Luke Humphries faces Mensur Suljovic. We head to the halfway mark with Gary Anderson on show against Joe Davis.

Later Four Matches

It is the former champion Michael van Gerwen who brings us into the second half of the evening. All matches involving the ‘Green Machine’ are high profile but his opener against Lisa Ashton is particularly so. When they are done the other two men in Group G battle it out when Joe Cullen meets the World Cup winner John Henderson. The other high profile match of the evening comes along in the penultimate match of the night and that sees a recently under par Peter Wright taking on Fallon Sherrock. The final clash of the evening sees two class acts battling it out in Group H when Michael Smith meets Raymond van Barneveld.

Betting

There isn’t a whole lot I like over the course of the evening with the two sort of 50:50 matches according to the odds both containing outright bets of mine. There is one bet which I’m happy to tuck into though and it comes midway through the session when Gary Anderson takes on Joe Davis. I was of the mindset that Davis might offer something in this event because I’ve seen him in the Online Darts League a fair bit over the last few months but then came the news that he is suffering with tennis elbow and has hardly been able to throw a dart for five weeks. Worse still I see he could be in pain here.

That isn’t good at any stage let alone when he is taking on Gary Anderson. I don’t have Anderson down as a favourite for this title because he has been largely inactive but his natural talent still sees him play to a decent enough level, especially on his scoring, and that scoring should see him set up a large amount of darts at a double. If Davis fails to group the darts either through a lack of practice or pain in his arm I just expect Anderson to be far too good and come out on top with a 5-0, 5-1 or 5-2 score.

Tips

Back G.Anderson (-2.5 legs) to beat J.Davis for a 3/10 stake at 2.00 with BetVictor
