It is the final day of Glorious Goodwood on Saturday with the big race on the card being the Stewards Cup. Usually as well as the big race we look to seek out the value on the undercard but the only bets we have come in the form of the Stewards Cup where we’re hoping to finish off the week strongly.
3.40 Goodwood: Stewards Cup
Preview
What could be easier? A 28 horse cavalry charge down the undulations of Goodwood for hardened handicapper’s. It’s the annual renewal of the Stewards Cup & what a race it looks to be this year.
Favourite
Foxtrot Lady is a strong fancy by many for this & the form book backs up the confidence but she’s a 3 year old mixing it with the older horses for the first time. Whilst she could be a class above this lot, 6/1 is too short a price to be taking in such a race. I’m taking 2 against the field.

Betting
Silent Echo was 5th in the Wokingham & came with a strong challenge late that day. He was sandwiched between 2 of today’s rivals, Tis Marvellous in 4th & George Bowen in 6th but there’s loads to suggest he’ll come out on top today. He raced on the worst part of the track (is better drawn today) & is 4lb & 8lb better off than the pair today at the weights. Previous to that, the selection had won a pair of Windsor handicaps & finished 2nd to Dreamfied, that horse that went off at 2/1 in the Wokingham. He’s still a 4 year old & only has 12 races against his name so there should be improvement left in him. The jockey booking of Joe Fanning is a good one as he’s a decent judge of pace. His form remains as consistent as you like & that should see him bang there in a ridiculously competitive race.
The 2nd selection is northern raider, Gunmetal. He’s a likeable grey who has been transformed since moving yards. Now with David Barron & he knows how to ready a handicapper, as shown in the selection’s 3 runs for him. He opened up with a comfortable win at Thirsk after over 200 days off (despite having a poor record fresh) & then followed up in a better race off 5lbs higher at Newmarket. He was then sent over to Ireland where he finished 3rd in a Premier Handicap off today’s mark. He was sent off the 3/1 favourite that day but got little cover & probably didn’t appreciate the extra half furlong. He loves top of the ground which he gets here, has a good draw &, with Ben Curtis back in the saddle (2 from 2 on him), he’s another that should go very close.
