The second day of action at the Grand Slam of Darts sees the winners from the opening day against each other with the losers from Saturday also facing off on what is often the most competitive day of the group action.
As ever in this tournament we saw shocks and surprises and no little drama on the first day of the competition and very much the same is expected across two more tasty sessions of play over the course of Sunday.
Afternoon Session
Ryan Searle and BDO world finalist Mark McGeeney get the action underway on Sunday when they battle for their first win. Josh Payne then meets Jim Williams in the second game of the day before the two losers in Group G collide as Martin Schindler takes on Scott Mitchell. The last match between two Saturday losers on Sunday sees Andrew Gilding and Simon Whitlock doing battle.
The winners get going with a good looking match between Mensur Suljovic and Stephen Bunting where the winner is likely to win the group. Rob Cross then takes on Dimitri Van den Bergh for top spot in Group H before Gerwyn Price and Glen Durrant to battle. Durrant will definitely be through if he wins given his big win on Saturday. The afternoon concludes with Peter Wright taking on Max Hopp.
Evening Session
Once again it is the losers up first which means Steve Hine and Michael Unterbuchner do battle to stay in the tournament. They are followed by Joe Murnan and Gary Robson with Murnan having to win to have any chance of going through. Mark Webster then takes on Wesley Harms before Raymond Barneveld takes on the Winmau World Masters winner Adam Smith-Neale in a juicy looking tussle.
The evening winners begins with James Wade looking to continue his fine form when he faces Keegan Brown before Michael Smith has a meeting with Krzysztof Ratajski. Michael van Gerwen will qualify for the knockout stages if he sees off Jonny Clayton in the penultimate match of the night before Gary Anderson and Ian White meet for the advantage in Group D to round off another lengthy day.

Betting
I like two bets over the course of the day on Sunday. In the afternoon session I’m happy to take on the German player Martin Schindler. I mentioned on Saturday that while Schindler is going well at the minute his best darts tend to come out on the floor not on the stage. He is now in must win territory and has plenty of pressure on him. I don’t think that is the case with Scott Mitchell. He has got statistically the hardest game of the group out of the way and if he bombs out this weekend this would only ever have been a bonus tournament for him. I fancy the BDO man can play the freer of the two and I like him much more on the doubles anyway. That combination can see him past Schindler.
Moving into the evening I think Gary Robson can get the better of Joe Murnan. In many ways the tournament begins for Robson in this match because he was never going to beat Michael van Gerwen in his opening game. Two wins from here and he is through. On the flip side of that Joe Murnan isn’t going to beat MVG so I wouldn’t be completely surprised if he struggles to get going for the remainder of the competition. Robson is very much the one with the most to play for here and I fancy he’ll get the job done.
