2018 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 8 Betting Preview

The semi-final line up at the Grand Slam of Darts will be determined on Saturday evening when the last two quarter finals take place in Wolverhampton. Gerwyn Price and Mensur Suljovic are already there and they will find out who joins them.

All the signs point towards Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson to be the two men to make it through to the last four but Michael Unterbuchner and Jonny Clayton will hope to have a thing or two to say about that.

Michael Unterbuchner vs Gary Anderson

The opening match of the evening sees the one remaining BDO player Michael Unterbuchner taking on Gary Anderson for the second time in the tournament. Anderson won 5-2 when they met in the group stage and is a huge favourite for this one too.

Credit goes to Unterbuchner for making it to this stage but barring something amazingly extraordinary his run ends here. He is going to need to deliver a 100+ average over the better part of 30 legs to have a chance of winning this and with no disrespect he isn’t at that level yet. Anderson struggled in the first match but he’s been flying since then. He wants to win this tournament and he can boost his chances with a big win here.

Jonny Clayton vs Michael van Gerwen

The last of the quarter finals sees Jonny Clayton facing up against Michael van Gerwen for the second time in the competition. Clayton caused a major shock in their first meeting but it is MVG who is expected to come through here.

Clayton has played some of the best darts I’ve seen from him this week but he is going to have his work cut out to stay with van Gerwen over this distance. It is all well and good edging him out over nine legs where a couple of missed doubles make a big difference but he’ll need his best ever match to come through here.

Despite his loss in that group game, MVG has only averaged less than 107 once in the tournament and he was on easy street in that match. That is the level Clayton has to get to. I don’t see it happening. He’ll have his moments will the Welshman but the longer it goes the more I expect the Dutchman to power clear.
