With the Italian Open being a Rolex Series event there are a number of side markets priced up for the tournament with many nations given their own individual markets and regions also having one and with that in mind there is a chance to look at a couple of them.
I’m already on players from Spain, France, Denmark and England so I am keen to avoid markets which involve those nationalities and regions but having scoured the various offerings there are two that I like.

Top Australian
There are nine Australians teeing it up in Brescia this week with Jason Scrivener the favourite to land the top honours of the group. He is 5/1 to be the top Australian with the likes of Andrew Dodt, Scott Hend, Brett Rumford and Marcus Fraser all among the market leaders.
A lot of these players are much of a muchness and they might not be suited by the conditions of the course this week. Marcus Fraser, Brett Rumford, Wade Ormsby and even Jason Scrivener are all shorter hitters who rely on accuracy over power. Usually that would be useful here but given how soft the course is I think it could play into the hands of the more powerful driving of Scott Hend and Andrew Dodt.
In fairness the form of Hend is truly terrible at the minute so I can’t be considering him but Dodt has some decent form around this time of year and on wider open tracks. This is a tight track but it will play a little wider given the softness. Dodt was the leading Australian in similar conditions last week and at 6/1 he’s decent value to replicate that this week.
Top German
There are four players from Germany teeing it up this week and the market for the top German centres around Martin Kaymer but while we keep on expecting the form of the former USPGA champion to come back there continuously appears to be little sign of it doing so.
He’ll go up against Maximilian Kieffer, Marcel Siem and Sebastian Heisele and it is the first one of those three that I am interested in here. Kieffer went well enough at Wentworth last week and he is one of the more accurate players on tour. We should acknowledge that he lacks length but none of these four are monsters off the tee. Kieffer is a monotonous cut maker and just like last week if he’s here for the weekend it might well be enough to get the job done.
