There is one match in the Mzansi Super League on Friday evening and it comes from Port Elizabeth which stages the event for the first time as the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants hosts the Durban Heat in a big game for both sides.
Both teams have one win to their name from their first two matches so they have the chance to move ahead on their ledgers as they go in search of a place in the latter stages of the inaugural competition.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
The Bay Giants eased past the Jozi Stars in their opening match of the tournament but then they came up short against the Cape Town Blitz last time out so they will be keen to get back to winning ways in what is their first home match of the season. I don’t think this will be a tournament where home advantage is paramount but as the competition tries to sell itself to the public a side playing well at home will be no bad thing.
If the Bay Giants are going to progress in this tournament you would think they are going to need to find more consistency and power with the bat. They have restricted sides well enough with the ball to date but their top order has a flimsy look to it and if a team does get away from them then you suspect a big chase is going to be beyond them.
Durban Heat
The Durban Heat have gone about their season the other way around. They were beaten in their first match when a late innings attack saw the Cape Town Blitz get the better of them but then they were far too good for the Tshwane Spartans in their second match so they head into this one with a bit of confidence from that.
I really like this Durban bowling attack. It is hard to see any team powering away from them so the only concern I have comes with the bat. It isn’t with the strength they have with the willow, they could lay claims for having the best batting line up in the competition, instead it is over the way they manage their innings. They almost threw the previous game away with some stupid shots in a situation where they were not required. They just need to fight a bit smarter.
Team News
The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants remain without Jason Roy who is away at the T10 League so it is hard to see what changes they can make to their batting line up. It might be that they send the same men out there and ask more from them.
After such a good performance last time out it would be a surprise if there are any changes to the Durban Heat team for this match unless they have suffered a late injury. Tladi Bokako could be vulnerable if they want to strengthen their batting but that is unlikely.

Betting
I like the Durban Heat here. I really do think they lay claims for being the best side in the competition, certainly on paper, and if they can bat smart then it is hard to see how they are going to be beaten in this match given the quality of their game in all departments.
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants offer a competitive outlook but their batting is not convincing me as much as I need it to if I’m going to place a bet on them and against the Durban bowling attack the home side are going to need to bat well. There isn’t a box that Durban do not tick in their line up so they will be carrying my cash here.
