It is a busy third day of action in the PDC World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt on Saturday as the last 16 of the tournament is played out across two sessions of play. The format switches to singles for the most part on Saturday and history tells us that drama is in shorter supply over the course of the day but hopefully we will get some.
This is the final round that the seeded teams won’t have a chance of playing fellow seeds and on paper there looks to be a number of one-sided contests in store. It will be interesting to see if that is how it plays out.
Afternoon Session
The day gets underway with a battle between Wales and Switzerland which the Welsh are emphatic favourites for. One of the more even matches in the round comes in the second match of the afternoon when Australia take on Spain before the only match of the last 16 which sees unseeded teams battle each other as Japan go up against Canada. The afternoon concludes with Scotland doing battle with Brazil.
Evening Session
Belgium get the evening session going knowing they are lucky to still be in the tournament. They face Finland before England will look to make it through to the quarter final when they go up against Singapore, who shouldn’t be underestimated. On paper the closest looking match of the day is the penultimate one as Northern Ireland face the hosts Germany while the defending champions Netherlands end the show when they play South Africa.

Betting
There is only one match which has any genuine betting potential if you are not already on Canada outright like we are. That is the one between Northern Ireland and Germany. We’ve seen over the last couple of years that Germany get inspired in front of their own crowd and I think they are worth a go at odds against.
You would think Daryl Gurney will ensure Northern Ireland get to the pairs match but Brendan Dolan is more miss than he is hit and if Germany are clever they’ll stick Hopp up against him to get to the pairs. From there it is no more than 50/50 but Germany were probably the more impressive outfit on Friday night and if that counts for anything they may well progress overall.
