There is one match in the Royal London One Day Cup on Thursday. It comes from the North Group and gives Leicestershire and Lancashire the chance to get themselves back in the mix for qualification when they meet at Oakham School.
With Sky turning their attention to the charity T20 match at Lord’s on Thursday evening, there is no TV coverage of this match so we will be drawn to the other methods of keeping up to date with county matches for this one.
Leicestershire
In terms of results it has been a poor campaign for the Leicestershire Foxes so far but actually when you strip it down and look at their performances there have been signs of encouragement for them. In many ways their season was summed up by their last match. They scored a club record score and then ran into one of the innings of all time to deny them.
That has been the concern for Leicestershire throughout the tournament. They have been conceding runs at a crazy rate. Not only did Worcestershire polish off 370+ against them but Nottinghamshire have posted 400 and Derbyshire also smashed them for plenty but if they can take early wickets and bowl with discipline there are wins there for them.
Lancashire
It hasn’t been a much better season for Lancashire so far. They have only won one match from the five they have played and that was only against a rancid at the time Durham side so there is a lot that Lancashire can improve on. They go into the match having lost their last two completed matches and in truth they don’t look like a team that is suddenly going to burst into the knockout stages.
I’ve thought throughout the competition that Lancashire are a seam bowler light. I admire and understand the reasoning behind bowling the young leg spinner at the death but if he gets carted the lack of a seamer to finish off is very worrying. Another worrying thing is the batting. Since that Durham win they’ve not posted 300 which is a concern.
Team News
Leicestershire have made the curious decision to rest Ben Raine and Gareth Griffiths for this match which suggests their attention might be elsewhere. Lewis Hill has come into the squad while Ateeq Javid is hoping to play.
Lancashire will be without Keaton Jennings for this match as he has gone off to join up with England. Jimmy Anderson and Jos Buttler are missing for the same reason. Haseeb Hameed comes into the squad with all eyes on him if he plays.

Betting
You can call me mad if you like but I think Leicestershire might be worth a go here. I don’t think Lancashire are much cop and I haven’t done throughout the competition and when you think they are without their leading run scorer in the tournament in this match there is plenty of reason to take them on.
Leicestershire have runs in them for absolute run at the minute but they can’t seem to stop haemorrhaging them but if Lancashire do struggle for rhythm at the top without Keaton Jennings then it might be that the Foxes can control the situation much more. I always think counties are more up for winning at outgrounds too plus with Leicestershire rebuilding a consolation win will probably mean a lot more to them than Lancashire. The hosts are worth a go here.
