The opening round of matches in the 2018 Specsavers County Championship begins on Friday and takes places over the weekend into Monday. In total we have three matches in each division and with a lot more sides offering better updates and some even with live streams we have a lot more ways to keep up to date with everything.

Division One
The big match of the week comes from Headingley where the former champions Yorkshire host the current title holders Essex in what should be a heavyweight battle except Yorkshire are missing loads of players. Hampshire want to launch a title challenge and they get the chance to do that when they host Worcestershire at the Ageas Bowl. Lancashire play host to the other promoted side Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford.
Division Two
All eyes in this division will be on Edgbaston not only to see how Warwickshire fare in their first match in Division Two but also because they take on potential title challengers Sussex in what should be a cracking match. Middlesex look to begin their return to the top flight with a win when they host Northamptonshire at Lord’s with Kent hosting Gloucestershire in the other match in the round.

Betting
It is fairly early in the season to be going too deep into these matches. The weather has been atrocious in the lead up to the campaign so how much outdoor netting the sides have done remains to be seen but at least the forecast for the four days is generally pretty good.
The bet I’m going with is on Essex who should be too good for Yorkshire who have had their bowling attack ripped apart in the lead up to this one with David Willey and Liam Plunkett late attendees to the IPL. Essex have only really lost Neil Wagner from the side which finished off the campaign last year but they’ve gained Matt Coles and Peter Siddle and with the attack they have I fancy the champions to open up with a win.
Tips
VOID – Back Essex to beat Yorkshire for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with BetVictor
