2018 Specsavers County Championship – Wednesday 20th June Matches Betting Preview

After the thrills and spills of the Royal London One Day Cup play-offs the counties return to four day action on Wednesday as we have a mixture of red ball and pink ball cricket in the next round of fixtures in the County Championship.

The season is just starting to take shape now despite the interruptions of it thus far but there are a few weeks of solid action in the longer format of the game where we can expect the cream to rise to the top from here on in.

Division One

The top two meet at Guildford in the match of the week when Somerset head on their travels to take on second placed Surrey while the two sides immediately behind them collide at Chelmsford as third placed Essex take on Nottinghamshire who are in fourth heading into the week. The other red ball match sees Worcestershire going in search of their first win of the season when they play host to Lancashire. Just one point separates Hampshire and Yorkshire at the wrong end of the table and they will do battle with the pink ball at the Ageas Bowl.

Division Two

The leading duo in this division do battle too when Warwickshire take their unbeaten record to Tunbridge Wells to take on Kent who are in second place and should be in good spirits having made the final of the One Day Cup over the weekend. Surprise package Leicestershire play host to Middlesex at Grace Road while Durham head to Sussex. Glamorgan welcome Derbyshire to Swansea and then in the pink ball match Northamptonshire take on Gloucestershire.

Betting

I’ll go with two bets this week which both come in the second division where I like a pair of away sides. Warwickshire were my pick for the title before a ball was struck this term and I’ve seen nothing to suggest I was wrong in my original assessment of that situation. They head to Kent who should be buzzing having made their first Lord’s final in a while but it is never easy to swap formats at the flick of a switch so Warwickshire could have an early advantage in this match and with their batting firing nicely and their bowling going very well I’m on them in that one.

Northamptonshire are really struggling with the bat at the minute and if we are being honest they haven’t been a huge amount better with the ball either which will be a concern for them and their supporters Gloucestershire are going along nicely enough despite a raft of injuries and I think they can see off a Northants side for whom the T20 Blast probably can’t come around quickly enough.
