It is ‘Moving Day’ at the Turkish Airlines Open on Saturday and with a whole host of big name players in the mix at the halfway stage we should be treated to some special golf over the course of the third round of the latest Rolex Series event.
Everyone who started the tournament remains in it so there is plenty to play for right across the board on Saturday as the competition heads towards its closing stages. It is all set up for a great day of golf.
Round 2 Recap
The defending champion Justin Rose Powered his way to the top of the leaderboard over the second round of the tournament. A second successive 65 sees him hold a two shot lead over a trio of players including the former winner Thorbjorn Olesen. Tom Lewis and the former Masters champion Danny Willett are the other two on 10 under par with Adrian Otaegui, Alexander Levy and Haotong Li another shot further back alongside our pre-tournament pick Sam Horsfield. Tommy Fleetwood is one of the players in eight under, four back from Rose and looking to chase him down over the final 36 holes.
It was another good day of betting for us out in Antalya with Thorbjorn Olesen being far too good for Ashun Wu and Thomas Detry to give us another three ball winner. Sam Horsfield moved right into contention in the tournament as well so things are looking positive for a decent week thus far.
Saturday Betting
We have a third round leader betting market priced up for Saturday with Justin Rose understandably all the rage but this doesn’t feel like a tournament where he is going to continue to gallop clear of what is a very strong chasing pack so this time I think I am going to get involved in some of the value that lies below him.
The player that stands out at 10/1 is Tom Lewis. While I respect Thorbjorn Olesen, the last time Lewis shot 63 he followed it up with a 61. That was in Portugal a few weeks ago so it was both recent and on a course that is very similar to this one. He is someone who has shown that he can keep the pedal to the floor in these shootout like tournaments and with each way terms paying out on the top three in case Rose does scoot clear I think there is enough with Lewis to take the chance on.

Saturday 3 Balls
Somewhat annoyingly the field remain in three balls for the third round which negates much of the value we can often find at this stage of a tournament. The final three ball of Justin Rose, Tom Lewis and Danny Willett head out at 9.02 GMT with Adrian Otaegui, Alex Levy and Thorbjorn Olesen going off 11 minutes prior to that. With the field out within the space of 112 minutes there isn’t the chance for the lesser groups to get much attention. One of them gets my attention from a betting point of view however.
Chris Paisley/Thomas Detry/Kiradech Aphibarnrat
Match tees off at 07.50 GMT
Three players in the relatively large group on six under par after two rounds go out alongside each other in one of the earlier groups when Chris Paisley is joined on the course by Thomas Detry and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
These three are three of the better players in Europe these days so it should be a decent group for those who want to watch it to witness. Although the trio are all on six under, Aphibarnrat was going along a whole lot better than that until he ran into the final hole on Friday which he double bogeyed. Detry is putting well this week but he has only found just over half of the fairways and on moving day I think you need to be playing from the fairways. Tee to green Paisley has been very good but he hasn’t holed anything on the greens.
That makes me think Aphibarnrat is the one to be on here. He has played better than his six under par score suggests and as long as his late double bogey on Friday has not stayed in his system to the point that it affects him negatively on Saturday, I think the Thai will see off his playing partners.
