The opening night of the World Series of Darts Finals sees the unseeded players competing for a place against the seeds on Saturday when the tournament gets underway in the beautiful city of Vienna on Friday evening.
Although the really top names do not arrive in the tournament until the weekend, there are still some very good players on show on Friday night, including the new European champion James Wade.
First Four Matches
Two men who maybe wouldn’t usually get their chance on this sort of stage open up the show on Friday evening when Raymond Smith goes up against Keegan Brown with the Australian out to show his win over Michael Smith in Brisbane was no fluke. Home man Maik Langendorf will look to set up a clash with Michael van Gerwen when he takes on Damon Heta in the second match of the night with arguably the two best matches to follow that as Ian White faces Kyle Anderson and Dave Chisnall takes on the last minute replacement Max Hopp.
Later Four Matches
Two men who came of age at the World Championship meet to begin the second half of the evening when Jamie Lewis goes up against Dimitri Van den Bergh. Gerwyn Price looks to build on his solid run last weekend when he meets Royden Lam before Steve Beaton and Daryl Gurney do battle for the right to face Simon Whitlock on Saturday. Ross Smith meets James Wade to round off the first round of the tournament.

Betting
My betting in this tournament is probably going to be fairly limited in truth. I’m no fan of best of 11 matches from a betting point of view but especially in this round where there could be a few mismatches. Most of the matches look to be priced accordingly but there is one which might not be.
That is the one between the home man Maik Langendorf and Damon Heta where I think the Australian is worth supporting. Earlier in these World Series events Heta pushed Gary Anderson close twice losing 10-7 in Melbourne and 6-5 in Brisbane and that’s a pretty strong form guide given what the former world champion has achieved either side of that. Langendorf did well to come through qualifying for this but he won’t have been favourite to win darts matches on TV very often so I wouldn’t be surprised if he struggles here. If he does the Aussie looks to have the game to take advantage.
Tips
WON – Back D.Heta to beat M.Langendorf for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with Boylesports
