T20 World Cup 2021 – Namibia Team Guide and Betting Preview

Namibia are making their debuts in the T20 World Cup this year and they have already made it through to the Super 12s stage of the T20 World Cup 2021. They went into their first round group as outsiders to qualify but dominated two of their three matches to take their place in among the big boys. They will look to use the confidence generated from the first stage to take a scalp or two down with them here.

Team Guide

Namibia will not have been expected to qualify for the main part of the tournament but they fully deserve their place here and having made it through to the Super 12s part of the event they are guaranteed to be at the next T20 World Cup in Australia next year, so this is now a chance for Namibian cricket to really establish itself. They have five matches on the world stage to inspire those back home and potentially pull off a shock or two along the way.

They have a powerful middle order who you get the impression could do some real damage over these five games with three of them in Abu Dhabi. The first two of those games represent the best chance for them to pick up a win and should they win both they would be on the precipice of qualifying for the semi-finals. If they can avoid being taken apart when they have the ball in hand Namibia will be competitive regardless of their results.

Betting

As with three other teams in this Super 12s stage we already have some tallies on the board in the two Namibia tournament markets. David Wiese is the leading light for the Africans but he doesn’t actually lead either the run scoring or the wicket taking at present. The prices are probably about right in the batting market but Wiese might not be getting enough credit in the bowling market given he is only two wickets adrift at present.

It is Jan Frylinck who leads the way with five wickets from those three matches but Wiese is only two behind him and operates closer to the level that Namibia are about to embark in than Frylinck. The big reason why I think Wiese can overturn the deficit is the time of the innings when he bowls. He will bowl in the powerplay and then he’ll take responsibility at the death overs as well and that is when the majority of wickets tend to fall. Wiese can take the pace off the ball and bowl into the pitch very well and at 9/4 probably isn’t getting the respect he deserves in this market.
