2019-20 Bundesliga – Sunday 14th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest round of Bundesliga action concludes on Sunday when a double header is played out across the afternoon and into the evening. The games on show see both ends of the table under the spotlight which should make for a good few hours of action.

We begin with the attention being on the bottom end of the table before the focus switches to the race for the Champions League spaces for next term in what should be two competitive matches to finish what has been a dramatic round thus far.

Mainz vs Augsburg (14.30)

Two sides who have returned to action in mixed form since lockdown meet in the opening match of the Sunday double header when Mainz host Augsburg in a clash in which the winners will be able to ease towards safety over the remainder of the campaign. The prospect of a relegation play-off looms on the horizon of the team who loses though.

Mainz go into the contest off the back of a fine 2-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, a victory which should have been a lot more emphatic than it was with them having copious efforts ruled out for offside for poorly timed runs. Augsburg on the other hand are without a win in three since they beat Schalke for their only win since lockdown, which isn’t really getting much of a franking in terms of the form it has to be said. They held FC Koln last week.

I don’t think anything stands out here to be honest. I was really impressed by Mainz last week and if that was a sign of what they are going to produce here then they would have every chance of picking up the win but home sides aren’t faring great at the minute. Augsburg’s only loss in four came against Hertha Berlin and they were value for better than what they got that afternoon. I’ll sit this one out.

Schalke vs Bayer Leverkusen (17.00)

The second game of the two on Sunday the Veltins Arena as Schalke look to finally come out of their slump when they host a Bayer Leverkusen side for whom this match is pretty big, as they would regain their spot in the top four should they avoid defeat.

The DFB Pokal finalists will be looking for more than that though because a win here would put them in a wonderful position to make the Champions League next term. Schalke have really struggled since the restart and are looking like a side for whom the end of the campaign can’t come soon enough. They are now 12 games without a win and worse still they aren’t really threatening to win matches, which is the biggest issue of all. Their defensive outlook isn’t cutting the mustard and motivation not to mention confidence must be low as a result.

Leverkusen have tailed off a little bit since their fine form at the return of football but to be fair they have run into a rampant Wolfsburg and a solid Bayern side in recent weeks. They will be buoyed by reaching the cup final in midweek and look to be in a different league to Schalke right now. Schalke aren’t scoring enough goals to keep close to this Leverkusen side so I’m on the visitors to not just win but cover a -1 Asian line.
