NFL – Week 4 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown

Week 4 Sunday DFS Fantasy Breakdown

Welcome to our NFL week 4 coverage with our DFS Fantasy Breakdown. This article will cover most of the Sunday games including:

  • The 1PM eastern kickoffs;
  • The 4pm Eastern kickoffs.

This preview does not include the game in London between Jacksonville and Indianapolis as that is in an early time slot.

Quarterbacks

PICK – Drew Brees – Saints – $7,600

Brees, the NFL’s leading passer gets to play a San Diego defence in week 4 that ranks 29th in the league in passing yards. In week 3 Andrew Luck and TY Hilton burned the Chargers defence in a big way. Expect more of the same in a game that could very well be a high-scoring shootout.

PICK – Kirk Cousins – Redskins – $6,500

Cousins gets a favourable matchup in week 4 against the Cleveland Browns. In week 3 Cousins had his best game of the season so far against divisional rivals the New York Giants. He should build on that here against the Browns 25th rated defence. Expect big games too from WR DeSean Jackson and TE Jordan Reed.

PICK – Trevor Siemian – Broncos –  $5,300

Last week Siemian was the top rated Fantasy QB with 300+ yards and 4 touchdown passes. That was against a decent Bengals defence. In week 4 he plays against an ailing Tampa Bay defence with a 27th ranking. The Bucs have given up a lot of deep passes and now play the Broncos big play WR duo Thomas and Sanders. A foresee another strong performance from Siemian.

AVOID – Brock Osweiler – Texans – $5,800

The Texans have disappointed so far. Now they have lost their premier player JJ Watt to Injured Reserve. Osweiler needs to step up and carry the Texans but I’m not sure he is that type of player. His week 4 matchup is against the Tennesse Texans 6th ranked defence. The Texans do give up a lot of short passes but try and limit the deep ball. Osweiler might get 20 completions in this game but not many of the 20+ yardage ones that woukd boost his fantasy value.

Running Backs

PICK – Spencer Ware – Chiefs – $5,700

Ware has value as a combo weapon against the Steelers in week 4. Pittsburgh were flat in their blowout loss in Philadelphia last week. They allowed a lot of completions to running backs on screens plus a lot of yardage after the catch. Ware with 185 receiving yards in the 2016 season already is the perfect player to attack the Steelers in this way in week 4.

PICK – Mark Ingram – Saints – $5,900

There aren’t a lot of running backs that I really like in week 4. Ingram is one that I’m going back and forward with. As mentioned above I think Drew Brees has a big game against the Chargers. This will open up the running game and Ingram is the punishing sort of runner that could feature well. I can see him scoring from close range in this game.

PICK – Dexter McCluster – Chargers – $3,500

McCluster, a street free agent signing following the season ending injury to Danny Woodhead has great value as a receiver against New Orleans. QB Phillip Rivers will target the short passing game to keep the Saints defence off-balance. McCluster will see his fair share of targets and he has the shiftiness to get yards after the catch.

AVOID – LeVeon Bell – Steelers – $7,500

I really like Bell. He is the premier fantasy talent in the NFL BUT this is his first game of the season. I suspect he might be rusty and the Steelers will rotate him with RB DeAngelo Williams throughout. To me this is too much to pay for Bell at this stage in the season. The matchup is favourable against the Chiefs but I can see a split of 16-18 touches for Bell and Williams in the game

AVOID – Matt Forte – Jets – $6,600

Forte is questionable for Sundays game but is expected to play. He has a touch matchup against the Seahawks number 7 ranked defence. The Jets have been mistake and turnover prone in 2016 so that might limit their opportunities against an improving Seattle team. I can see Seattle focusing on stopping the Jets running game and forcing the Jets to throw a lot against the Legion of Boom secondary.

Wide Receivers

PICK –Brandin Cooks – Saints – $7,400

I see this being a bounce back week for Cooks. He was limited to 2 catches for minimal yards in week 3 as the Saints game-planned elsewhere. Here he matches up well against the Chargers taller CBs. Colts WR TY Hilton is similar to Cooks and he went for 8-174-1 touchdown against the Chargers last week. Look for Cooks to feature early and often.

PICK –Kelvin Benjamin – Panthers – $7,100

Another high value player that I think bounces back after being shutout in week 3. The Panthers need to beat their divisional leading rival Falcons to get back to .500. The Falcons have conceeded a lot of yardage to WRs so far this season as their pass-rush has failed to function. I can see a big game for Benjamin.

PICK – Jamison Crowder – Redskins – $4,200

Crowder is averaging more than 5 catches per game so far and that should continue against the 28th rated Browns defence. The Redskins will use DeSean Jackson deep and then TE Jordan Reed and Crowder on medium and short routes. Crow/der has the quickness to break one of those shorter routes for a touchdown.

AVOID – Mike Evans – Bucanneers – $6,500

This is a touch matchup for the Bucs WR’s against the Denver Broncos tough CB trio. The Broncos have been weaker in run defence this season than expected but the pass defence is ranked number 3. Bucs QB Jameis Winston has thrown interceptions this season and I can see that occurring a couple of times on Sunday.

AVOID – Eric Decker – Jets – $6,300

This is simply a  bad matchup for the Jets passing game coming off 6 interceptions in week 3. Now they play arguably the best secondary in the NFL. Oh, and Decker is questionable for the game too.

Tight Ends

PICK – Jordan Reed – Redskins – $6,300

Reed has a great matchup in week 4 against the Cleveland Browns. Reed enters the game with 16-190 but no touchdowns. I can see that changing here with a game to the tune of 7-95 with a touchdown. I like Reed a lot in this game!

PICK –Travis Kelce – Chiefs – $4,800

Kelce has similar season numbers to Reed 17-197-1td. The Chiefs play the Steelers in week 4 and Kelce will be a tough matchup for the Steelers safety combo in the game. Expect him to exceed his current 2016 per game averages in week 4.

AVOID – Martellius Bennett – Patriots – $3,500

The Patriots continue to confound everyone by being succesful when it doesn’t appear possible. They play a fast improving Buffalo in week 4 with major issues at QB. There is a chance TE Rob Gronkowki returns which would cut into Bennett’s playing time. I see NE trying to lean on their running game here.

Defences

PICK – Broncos – $3,700

Denver matches up really well with Tampa Bay. The Broncos secondary will force turnovers and I have concerns that the Bucs OL line can stop the Broncos pass-rushers. This could be a big scoring game for the Broncos defence!

PICK – Chiefs – $3,000

The Chiefs are turnover machines. They forced 6 interceptions in week 3 against the Jets. This week they get to play one of the best offences in the NFL with the Steelers. BUT the Steelers were awful in week 3 and might need a couple of weeks to get RB LeVeon Bell up to speed. I see a couple of turnovers for the Chiefs in this game.

AVOID – Steelers – $2,800

Pittsburgh have some injury issues on defence and have been unable to slow down underneath passing games. The Chiefs excel in the short to medium route passing game. They have RBs who can catch and run and I can see them building a lot of drives with 10+ plays in this game.
