2019-20 Premier League – Sunday 21st June Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The return of the Premier League continues on Sunday when three more matches take place behind closed doors as the top flight starts to rev up a bit of speed in their intentions to get the season finished next month.

We have to say that not all of the eight matches that have been played so far have been of the greatest standard but we’ve seen enough now to know what to expect. There are a couple of very watchable sides on show on what should still be a decent Sunday of action.

Newcastle United vs Sheffield United (14.00 Sky Sports and Pick)

The opening match of the triple header on the day sees the continuation of the amazing season of Sheffield United. After competing in the match that restarted the Premier League against Aston Villa on Wednesday night, the Blades now head to St James’ Park to meet Newcastle United.

Newcastle picked up enough points prior to lockdown to pretty much assure themselves of playing Premier League football next season so it will be interesting to see their motivation here. It will also be worth keeping an eye on their style too as now that there aren’t 50,000+ Geordies to entertain in the ground each week we might see them soak up pressure more contently and hit sides on the break.

Sheffield United laid out their intentions on Wednesday night and although they weren’t great obviously they should have won the game. I still don’t see anything but a tight match here though. These are two of the lowest scoring sides in the division. Nobody have scored fewer goals than Newcastle while Sheffield United only have 30 in 29 games. Given how tight the first halves have been since the restart, where five of the eight matches have been 0-0 at the break and one of the other three saw the deadlock broken in first-half injury time, the 6/4 on this being scoreless at half time looks a fair bet.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea (16.15 Sky Sports)

The second match of the afternoon comes from Villa Park where Aston Villa will look to capitalise on their good fortune as they entertain a Chelsea side who will be in action for the first time in more than three months in this fixture.

You would have to say that Villa looked a poor side against Sheffield United on Wednesday evening and if they have not come on for the run they could be right up against it here. In saying that, there is no guarantee Chelsea will be at it after such a long break so I’m a little reluctant to get involved in this one. I’d probably still favour the away win because Villa’s record against the top sides this season is pretty disastrous but I’m not that interested in a bet here.

Everton vs Liverpool (19.00 Sky Sports and Pick)

The big fixture of the three on Sunday comes along last and is the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, a clash which the Toffees fans will be pleased cannot be the one that the Reds can win the title in.

Liverpool will go within a win of a first title on 30 years though if they can win this match and they certainly don’t lack for motivation here. I don’t think motivation will be an issue for Everton in this match but whether they can overcome the inferiority complex that seems to exist for them in this fixture is a different thing entirely. It might be that the lack of a crowd will help them in that regard but they will need to have left that behind if they are to get anything from this one.

I think Liverpool will continue to be in just win mode now. It is going to be a pretty warm evening on Merseyside and games come thick and fast from here on in so there is no need to bust a gut chasing goal difference which they aren’t going to need. I would imagine both sides will be a bit rusty in front of goal too so I don’t see this being the highest scoring derby of all time so the Liverpool win and under 4.5 goals looks decent enough to me.
