The midweek Premier League action concludes on Thursday night with another double header of action as the division continues to head towards the frantic Christmas period, which is so often telling at both ends of the table.
As with the rest of the week, both the matches are live on Amazon Prime Video so if you have that service you can watch both on different devices at the same time. It has been an entertaining week thus far and hopefully it will finish that way.
Sheffield United vs Newcastle United (19.30)
The first of the two matches to kick off on Thursday evening sees the surprise package of the campaign thus far in Sheffield United taking on a Newcastle United who just held the champions Manchester City to a draw last weekend.
Sheffield United have been in good form this season and managed to hold a surging Wolves side at the weekend. I like watching them but there is always a doubt over how many goals they have in them especially against teams who aren’t going to come out and go at them. A lack of goals is a huge concern for Newcastle as well and this doesn’t look like a match where the styles will blend too well. That all makes for a low scoring encounter, but that is priced accordingly. If I was picking I’d go with Sheffield United to win but they look a little short at odds on so I’ll leave this one alone.
Arsenal vs Brighton and Hove Albion (20.15)
The second match of the night comes from the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal will look to start their turnaround in fortunes when they host Brighton and Hove Albion who pretty much have a free shot at some bonus points in their quest to remain in the division.
These are two out of form sides. Arsenal haven’t won in six while Brighton have lost their last three, although those matches have come against the top two and Manchester United so it is probably a skewed form guide, although Arsenal are in that sort of sphere when they are at their best. Arsenal have failed to beat struggling Southampton and Norwich in their last two matches and continue to look an absolute mess at the back.
That makes me think we’re going to see more than three goals in this one. Brighton have lost at Anfield and Old Trafford in the last month but they’ve scored at both grounds and you would think they are going to offer something going forward here. Arsenal have to attack, if for no other reason than to appease their frustrated fans. We should be in for plenty of goals here.
