The Championship weekend continues on Saturday afternoon when nine more fixtures take place in the second tier of English football, as the league breaks back out again after a pause for the international break.
We have a televised match to kick things off on Saturday afternoon and then the leaders are in action later in a day which looks like it has the potential to deliver plenty more entertainment and no doubt bizarre results.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Fulham v West Bromwich Albion (12.30)
Blackburn Rovers v Millwall
Charlton Athletic v Birmingham City
Hull City v Wigan Athletic
Middlesbrough v Reading
Preston North End v Brentford
Queens Park Rangers v Luton Town
Stoke City v Bristol City
Swansea City v Nottingham Forest
Big Matches
The TV game on Saturday sees two promotion chasers battling it out at Craven Cottage where Fulham host West Brom in a match between two sides who have begun the season pretty well. Nobody has started it better than Swansea City however. They go into Saturday on top of the pile and host Nottingham Forest in a bid to stay there. At the other end of the table Stoke City will be desperate for a result when they host Bristol City at the Bet365 Stadium with their manager very much under pressure.
Best of the Rest
Charlton Athletic have been in good form in recent times and they will hope to continue that when they welcome Birmingham City to The Valley. QPR and Luton Town are both in good nick and they will renew hostilities at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. Reading have surprised many with their start to the season and they make the long journey to Middlesbrough while Blackburn Rovers host Millwall. Hull City face Wigan Athletic and Preston North End meet Brentford in the other matches.
Betting
There are two bets that I like over the course of the regular 3pm matches on Saturday. The first of those as ever involves my own side Luton Town where I think the 2.75 goal line is probably a line too low. I say that because only one of Luton’s six league matches have not had three goals in them, that was the one midweek game of the season, while QPR’s last three have all had three or more goals in them. Both teams will view this as a game they can win which should see it being quite open. To be fair Luton haven’t played in a game where they’ve not taking it to the opposition so far and I don’t see that changing here. Both teams have goals in them. Only four teams have more goals than Luton while QPR are averaging 1.5 goals a game themselves. The over looks good to me.
Stoke City have made an awful start to the season and I don’t think their form is going to turnaround when they entertain Bristol City on Saturday afternoon. Bristol City were shown a bit of a lesson on the opening day of the campaign but they are unbeaten since then while Stoke’s only point of the season came in a 2-2 draw with Derby which doesn’t look overly special anyway but even then they should have lost that match as well, and would have done had it not been for a couple of missed chances. It could all change over the course of the international break but Stoke have been tanking for long enough to make me think they won’t be turning things round anytime soon. I’m amazed the home side are favourites for this one but I’m happy to be on the visitors here.
