2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 22nd February Matches Tips and Betting Preview

Another big week of Championship action continues on Saturday afternoon and with two more match days to come in the next seven days, the 20 sides on show could put a serious dent into whatever they require for their respective aims with a big period of results.

Big Matches

It all begins with match at Griffin Park where Brentford will look to get back to winning ways and back in the mix for automatic promotion when they take on a Blackburn Rovers side who are in really good form themselves at the minute. The top two are also playing on Saturday afternoon. West Bromwich Albion have a tricky looking assignment away to Bristol City while Leeds United welcome in and out Reading to Elland Road. Nottingham Forest and Preston North End, the other two sides in the top six, are at home to QPR and Hull City respectively.

Best of the Rest

There are two huge matches at the bottom end of the table as Barnsley host Middlesbrough at Oakwell while two sides who met in League One last season will meet in the second tier on Saturday as Charlton Athletic take on Luton Town. The other three sides deep in relegation trouble are Wigan Athletic, who host Millwall, Stoke City who welcome Cardiff City to the Bet365 Stadium, and Huddersfield Town who travel to Swansea City. The other match should be fiery as Birmingham City host Sheffield Wednesday which means it is Pep Clotet vs Garry Monk II.

Betting

Two bets stand out to me on Saturday and I’m going to take both of them. The first of those is on Birmingham City who I’m a little surprised are odds against to beat Sheffield Wednesday. I mentioned last week that I couldn’t believe how bad the Owls were at Kenilworth Road a few days prior and by all accounts they were just as bad in their 3-0 loss to Reading. There is a lot of ill feeling towards Garry Monk and he’s certainly unlikely to get much love from the other three sides of St Andrew’s here either after his antics before the reverse fixture. We’ll find out a little bit about Wednesday here. Monk will fire his charges up but I suspect they’ve stopped playing for him. Birmingham are unbeaten in seven whereas their visitors have one win in 10 and are getting worse. I’ll take the home win here.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I’m expecting Hull City to drop fast now that Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen have left and although they drew 4-4 with Swansea last week I’ve seen nothing to suggest they can cause Preston North End that many issues. Hull did thump Preston in the reverse fixture but the North End at Deepdale and the one away from it are chalk and cheese. This is nothing like as strong a Hull side as that night too. Preston saw a six game unbeaten run ended last week but Hull have no win in seven. I expect Preston to continue that slump here.
