There are two matches in the Championship on Sunday to round off the weekend and it could be forgiven for being described as Yorkshire day in the second tier as all four sides in action come from that part of the world.
As a result of the latest TV deal that the EFL and Sky put together both matches are available to watch, one on the main channel and the other on the red button so there is no need to miss any of the action.
Huddersfield Town vs Sheffield Wednesday (12.00)
The first match of the two taking place on Sunday is the one on the main channel and it sees two teams hoping for the new manager bounce as they begin different eras after the international break as Sheffield Wednesday make the short trip to Huddersfield Town.
Danny Cowley is the latest man charged with getting Huddersfield up and running again but I saw them a couple of weeks ago and it didn’t look like he has a lot to work with it has to be said. Garry Monk begins life in charge of Sheffield Wednesday in this contest and after a bright start to the campaign his side are in the better position of the two.
I understand why bookmakers are still favouring Huddersfield but I’ve a feeling that it is going to take Cowley a few games to turn things round if he can do it at all, that’s no slight on him but that Huddersfield squad looks wafer thin in the right areas. Sheffield Wednesday won’t need too much changing and Monk is clever enough to acknowledge that. I’m sure he’ll add an edge to them and on a draw no bet line they look the best bet here.
Barnsley vs Leeds United (12.30)
The second match of the day can be viewed on the red button as Championship new boys Barnsley take on a Leeds United side who can return to the top of the table should they come out on top at Oakwell.
Barnsley have a few issues. They haven’t started the season particularly great form and are suffering from a pretty large number of injuries which was the last thing they needed after promotion last term. Leeds were beaten last time out but you would think that would only have toughened them up for this match having had two weeks to dwell on that result.
I fear a little for Barnsley here I have to admit but I do respect their home record. Luton were the first team to win at Oakwell in yonks a few weeks ago and Barnsley do tend to trouble the scorers at home. I don’t see them keeping Leeds at bay though so over 2.75 goals looks the way to play this one.
