2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 11th February Matches Tips and Betting Preview

A huge week in the Championship continues this midweek as we go past the two-thirds mark of the campaign with half of the fixtures taking place on what could be a pivotal night at the top and bottom of the table on Tuesday.

We had one of the most important matches of the season so far on Saturday and we have another of them on Tuesday too. All six fixtures can be watched either on the Sky Football channel or behind the red button.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:

Barnsley v Birmingham City

Blackburn Rovers v Hull City

Brentford v Leeds United

Nottingham Forest v Charlton Athletic

Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers

Wigan Athletic v Middlesbrough

Preview

Although it isn’t the match on the main channel itself there is no question that the biggest game of the night is the one at Griffin Park where Brentford host a Leeds United side who are beginning to show signs of throwing away an outstanding position for the second time in as many seasons. The game on the main channel sees Swansea City looking to revive their play-off aspirations against a QPR team who are sliding a little close to the danger zone for comfort.

Three of the other four matches will have implications at the bottom of the table. Barnsley are now eight points adrift of safety so they could do with three of them when they host Birmingham City while Wigan Athletic are four points better off and will go within a point of Charlton if they beat Middlesbrough. Charlton have the chance to preserve and even extend their lead when they go to Nottingham Forest, who are chasing a spot in the top two with a win of their own. The other match sees Blackburn Rovers taking on Hull City at Ewood Park.

Betting

Two bets jump out at me on Tuesday evening. The first is on Nottingham Forest to ease past Charlton Athletic. Teams who beat Leeds this season have a pretty ordinary record in the next game and I certainly think there is something in that because you have to work your conkers off to beat them but Forest might just be the exception to the rule as they camp in and counter against everyone in the league. Charlton have a horrendous record on the road with three points from their last 12 Championship away games so even if Forest do have an emotional comedown it may well be that Charlton are unable to take advantage. This is a big night for Forest and I expect their fans to lift them accordingly. I’ll take them to pile more away day misery on Charlton.

I’m not sure I buy the disarray that Leeds fans think they are in but I don’t think their side win at Brentford on Tuesday night. I wouldn’t say Brentford are value or anything like that, the prices are about right but I think Brentford will at worst avoid defeat in the game but probably win it. Make no mistake about it, these two are the best two teams I’ve seen in the Championship this season by an absolute distance but Leeds look a bit rocked confidence wise at the minute. Their record in London is known as being terrible and this Brentford front three are legitimate. They score plenty, they don’t concede many and I expect the Bees to get a result here.
