MLS 2020 – Nashville SC vs FC Dallas Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is another match in the MLS on Tuesday evening as a couple more teams look to make up ground on the lost part of the Major League Soccer season when the debutants Nashville SC go up against FC Dallas.

Both teams go into the match in the play-off places in their respective Conferences but they are not yet secured to make the postseason. A win for either here would go a long way to securing their berth in the end of season showdown.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live on Free Sports in the UK. The build up to the match begins at 1.50am and the game itself starts shortly after. It can also be viewed on the bookmaker streaming consoles.

Nashville SC

For a debut season that has had more upheaval than any that has gone before it, Nashville SC have done pretty well to be in a play-off spot. They will be looking to secure their berth as quickly as possible so that they can start to look at resting players as we close in on the postseason because they still have six regular season matches left and Judgement Day is in less than three weeks so their schedule is about to get very hectic.

A win here will not only put a five point buffer between them and the team outside the play-off spots but it would move them up a place and within three points of New York City in sixth which is the position that grants first round entry into the play-offs. Nashville will be quietly confident here because their form at home as been very good. They have only lost one of their seven matches on their home patch and while a few more goals would be nice they are clearly very comfortable in their surroundings.

FC Dallas

Given all the Covid-19 issues that FC Dallas had around the time of the MLS is Back tournament which cancelled their participation in that event, like their opponents here FC Dallas have always been playing catch up in the season. They have done well to be in the top six in the Western Conference and if they can take advantage of their games in hand they could yet earn themselves a home game in the play-offs which would be significant.

Dallas have only lost four of their 16 matches this season which is no mean effort in what is the stronger of the two Conferences but they have only won six games. If they can find a way to put in a bit of a winning burst it would help on two scores ahead of the play-offs – firstly to give them a better seeding and also to build up their confidence going into the postseason. Like their opponents here, if that is to happen they could do with a few more goals.

Betting

I think it is safe to say we shouldn’t expect too many goals in this match. I say that because the two have met twice this season and there has only been one goal in the two matches combined. We should offer up the caveat that those matches were the first ones that the two teams played after the restart where rust and a lack of cohesiveness were very much a factor but if we look at the styles of the two teams we can see that neither of them are particularly expansive.

I see this as a match that neither team will want to lose. A point for each puts them in a better chance of making the postseason so I would imagine both will set up to be hard to beat and contain the opposition and look to get something on the break or through a dead ball situation. Nashville only have 15 goals in their 17 matches this season while on the road FC Dallas have only found the net six times in six games. Under 2.5 goals looks safe enough to me here.
