The midweek Championship action comes to a close on Wednesday evening and it does so on what could be a huge night at both ends of the table, after the way the results played out up and down the division on Tuesday.
The draw between Brentford and Leeds on Tuesday means that West Brom can take a six point lead at the top on Wednesday evening while Stoke have the chance to pull further clear of the bottom three.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Bristol City v Derby County
Huddersfield Town v Cardiff City
Luton Town v Sheffield Wednesday
Millwall v Fulham
Reading v West Bromwich Albion (8pm)
Stoke City v Preston North End (8pm)
Preview
There is one match on the main channel on Wednesday but it isn’t either of the bigger matches. Instead it is the one between Bristol City and Derby County, or Wayne Rooney’s Derby County as they appear to have changed their name to in recent times! The attention on the red button will be on the two later kick offs where West Brom will be eyeing up going top when they take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium and where Stoke City host Preston North End at the Bet365 Stadium.
There are three other matches and they have a bit on them as well. Fulham have the chance to move into the automatic places in the division if they can pick up a win over Millwall at The New Den. Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City will be looking for the points for very different reasons and then in the other match two out of form sides battle it out at Kenilworth Road where Luton Town host Sheffield Wednesday.
Betting
I’ll go with one bet over the course of the night which comes in the London derby at The New Den where Millwall take on Fulham who have so much incentive to perform here it is untrue. There is a good gamble going down on Fulham but the time where I trust them on the road hasn’t arrived yet, especially against a team who is going to test them defensively in the way that Millwall should do if they play how they can.
I like both teams to score here. Fulham have improved defensively over the last few weeks but they still take a risk too many at the back and I’m never convinced by them when they are defending crosses into their box. On the flip side of that they have one of the most dynamic attacks in the division so I’m expecting them to find the back of the net. It didn’t land against West Brom on Sunday but I fancy Millwall and Fulham can bring both teams to score in here.
