The midweek round of matches in the Sky Bet Championship concludes on Wednesday evening, when the remaining seven fixtures are played out on what looks like an extremely competitive night in the second tier.
As with the matches that took place on Tuesday evening, all seven of these games are available to Sky subscribers either on the main channels or behind the red button, so once again there is plenty of opportunity to keep an eye on our bets.
Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)
Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town
Charlton Athletic v Nottingham Forest
Fulham v Millwall
Leeds United v Brentford
Preston North End v Stoke City
Queens Park Rangers v Swansea City
West Bromwich Albion v Reading (20.00)
Preview
There are two matches in front of the red button on Wednesday evening. The main focus of attention is at Deepdale where Preston North End will take on a Stoke City side who are under all sorts of pressure having failed to win a game so far. The other match on show on the main channels is the one from The Valley where Charlton Athletic will look to keep their undefeated record intact when they host Nottingham Forest.
Leeds United went into the midweek fixtures on top of the table in the Championship and they play host to Brentford looking to keep up their fine start to the season. Two relegated sides meet in Wales when Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town both look to bounce back from disappointing results at the weekend while West Bromwich Albion and Reading will both be looking to build on their wins last time out when they battle it out at The Hawthorns. Elsewhere we have a London derby between Fulham and Millwall while QPR welcome Swansea City to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.
Betting
I’m going for goals in these matches tonight. Charlton Athletic have been involved in three pretty high scoring matches and given that they lost a couple of key elements of their defence at the end of last season but have worked hard on recruiting attackers I expect that trend to continue. Nottingham Forest matches have seen both teams scoring so far and that is probably a trend that will continue as well. I’m surprised the goal line here is as low as 2.25 because neither of these defences inspire me but both have class acts going forward. I’ll play the over here.
I’m also happy to take the over when Leeds United take on Brentford. There won’t be much love lost here after a spicy affair between these two sides last season and the move of Pontus Jansson might add to the intensity of the night. Leeds can score freely whenever they want but they have a few defensive issues in terms of injuries and things here which could open the door for a misfiring Brentford attack to get firing again. I’m expecting to see more than 2.5 goals in this match despite the lack of goals in recent Brentford matches.
