2019 ATP Cincinnati: Western & Southern Open Tennis – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The Western & Southern Open began on Sunday night but the first full day of action in the Cincinnati tournament takes place on Monday when the latest Masters 1000 event clicks into action with some big names on show out in America.

The US Open is closing in on us so the likes of Marin Cilic, Gilles Simon, Nick Kyrgios, Borna Coric and Felix Auger-Aliassime will all be looking for wins on Monday. The day is all about the return to singles action of Andy Murray however.

Center Court

The action on the main court begins with a couple of women’s matches but when the men get to sample the main court for the first time it is the return of the aforementioned Andy Murray. The Scot will play his first singles match since the Australian Open when he takes on a previous regular foe in Richard Gasquet. That is the only men’s match in the day session but there is one in the night session too. That sees the American powerhouse Reilly Opelka taking on Borna Coric in what could be a lengthy match.

Grandstand

We have three matches from the men’s draw on the second court on Monday and three big names on show in them. They begin right from the start of play too with the former US Open champion Marin Cilic taking on Radu Albot. They are followed by two young guns in the form of Miomir Kecmanovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime who should produce a really high quality match with the former getting his confidence back by coming through the qualifying event. We then have a women’s match before the last of the men’s matches kicks off the night session. That sees the Washington champion Nick Kyrgios taking on Lorenzo Sonego.

Stadium 3

There are only two singles matches from the men’s draw on the third court although there is a doubles match involving Novak Djokovic and the number one team in that sphere to add further male profile on this part of the complex. The first men’s match sees the Chilean player Cristian Garin taking on Adrian Mannarino and then after that doubles action, Sam Querrey will face off against Pierre-Hugues Herbert for a place in the second round of the tournament.

Best of the Rest

There aren’t a great deal of men’s matches on the remainder of the card on Monday, with Tuesday seemingly the day where most of them will be played but Lucas Pouille and Ivo Karlovic are on the outside courts. There is a good looking match between Pablo Carreno Busta and Gilles Simon too while Matteo Berrettini is another looking to entertain the crowds. Guido Pella is also in action on the extremities of the complex on a light day of men’s action.

Betting

I’m going to ease my way into the tournament with just the one bet on Monday. It comes in the night match actually where I fancy we will see quite a few games between Reilly Opelka and Borna Coric. If past years are anything to go by then we should see Opelka getting the conditions that he relishes where his fast serve is a huge weapon and that should be more than enough to keep him competitive here.

Borna Coric is becoming renowned for losing the first set in his matches and then turning them around and coming out on top. He did that in the first round in Montreal last week and I wouldn’t be surprised if he has to do the same here. Whether he does or he doesn’t do that, I’m expecting to see tiebreaks in this match which makes me think that the over 24.5 games will safely land in this one. I’m happy to have that as my only punt on what is a quiet day in Cincinnati.
