It is the second day of the Ebor Festival on Thursday where the feature race on the card is the Yorkshire Oaks, where the amazing Enable is the heavy odds on favourite. She is unbackable at the prices but at the same time in a four runner race she is unopposable too. With that in mind, we are putting out attention in a couple of other races on the card as we search for yet more winners on the Knavesmire.

3.00 York: Clipper Logistics Handicap
Preview
A big field of 19 for this excellent renewal of a very competitive Class 2 handicap over a mile.
The favourite is Kynren, a horse who deserves to win a big handicap. He’s always in the frame but is hard to win with. The next 3 in the betting all ran in the Golden Mile at Glorious Goodwood with Vale Of Kent 2nd, Baltic Baron 5th and What’s The Story midfield. I’m not sure I can separate the trio.
Betting
There are 2 I like against the field. The first is Firmament who, simply put, is a different horse at the Knavesmire. He won this in 2016 and has twice finished 3rd in this race since; extending that record to York, he’s been here 6 times, winning twice, finished 2nd twice and 3rd twice. That includes a win earlier this term off 6lb lower. Off his revised mark in a big handicap at Ascot, he again ran a good race and back at his favourite track, he’s sure to be in the mix.
The 2nd bet is a slightly riskier proposition as Bless Him is a hold up performer ridden by the frustrating Jamie Spencer. JP has ridden this horse twice before, winning the Britannia in 2017 and he’s now only 2lb higher. There’s many in this field that want to lead so a fast pace is almost guaranteed which could set it up for him to come late; conditions he’s not had for some time. David Simcock’s charge is recommended as a saver.

4.50 York: Fillies Handicap
Preview
A maximum field of 20 for this fillies handicap over 7 furlongs.
The market is dominated by 3 year olds with 4 of the front 5 in the betting being from the Classic generation. That includes the well fancied front 2 in Salayel and Mubtasimah. The former is from the Roger Varian yard who run an excellent race on her UK debut when a head 2nd to California Love. She’s now 6lb higher so needs to improve but she’s well capable of doing just that. Mubtasimah is from the Haggas yard and she is 3 from 3 this season, winning all easily but all at odds on. This is miles tougher but she couldn’t be in better form.
Betting
Whitefountainfairy is a 4 year old and she’s the selection. She’s from the in-form Andrew Balding stable and has De Sousa doing the steering. She was decent as a 2 year old but has had injury problems since. Recently there’s been signs of a revival which is unsurprising given her mark has fallen 12lbs in a year. Last time out, she was an eyecatcher at Goodwood when, after being very slowly away, finished with a late rattle despite finding trouble in running. A repeat of that run would see her involved in the finish and connections certainly think she’s primed given she’s entered up in 3 handicaps this week. She looks a cracking each way bet.
Tips
Back Whitefountainfairy (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 9.00 William Hill BOG (⅕ odds 1-5)
