After a week of struggles with the weather, the Fever-Tree Championships is back on track as far as the singles event is concerned with the four quarter finals all due to take place at Queens Club in London on a decent looking day on Friday.
We’ve seen plenty of shocks and surprises and big name exits so far which makes the remainder of the tournament a little unpredictable but that is grass court tennis in a lot of ways. We still have the top seed and a good looking quarter final line up though.
Centre Court
Play begins with the man who took out the defending champion Marin Cilic back on Centre Court when Diego Schwartzman goes up against Daniil Medvedev in a clash between two men who aren’t naturally suited to grass. The second match on the court might just be the pick of the quarter finals as Stefanos Tsitsipas goes up against Felix Auger-Aliassime before the last singles match on this main court sees the former winner Feliciano Lopez going up against Milos Raonic in a clash where rallies could be few and far between. Two doubles matches round off the schedule with both the Murray brothers involved in them.
Court 1
There is one singles match away from the main court to accommodate Andy Murray’s return to action and it is an all-French clash between the distant former finalist and veteran Nicolas Mahut and his countryman Gilles Simon in what should be a very competitive match with a spot in the semi-finals on the line and the reward for the winner.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets on Friday hoping to build on the two winners we finally got on Thursday. First up I like over 23.5 games in the French clash between Nicolas Mahut and Gilles Simon. I mentioned when taking this market in Simon’s match on Thursday that he is no stranger to a lengthy match and we know all about the potential for Mahut to get involved in them on this surface. If you bet on the head-to-head statistic you will be backing Simon here. He leads 6-1 but five of those seven matches have gone to a deciding set and one of the other two included a tiebreak so matches between these two are tight until the big moments when Simon gets the better of things. I’ll take similar to happen here and back the over.
The other bet I like the look of is Felix Auger-Aliassime to see off Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek player should really be out of this tournament. Jeremy Chardy served for the match against him at 64 54 only to be broken but the confidence this young Canadian has could see the end of the number one seed on a surface which doesn’t really suit him. Tsitsipas revealed he was tired after his two matches on Thursday which doesn’t bode overly well. These two met in Indian Wells when FAA took Tsitsipas to the cleaners. He might not win quite as smoothly here but at 13/10 he’s definitely the value.
